First the part needed: http://www.mcmaster.com/#90186a213/=q7iljs Next - however you are comfy doing it, grind/drill/remove the old fitting and then drill to 0.438 - 0.450 dameter
Put it into position, using the provided tool (prevents spinning) and pull-up the fitting. Works just like a drywall anchor.

I can't visualize where this is. I have an XBS, so maybe it is XBR-only? |

One addition to that... shetcan the TORX OEM Harley aluminum crap and replace em ALL with Standard 5 Pt Hardened Steel SAE ALLEN Bolts. Those Aluminum TORX Bolts are soft aluminum Junk and are the biggest headache that cause of the issue at hand. Once you Loc-Tite em, getting em off strips the head and you've got a stripped bolt as well as a spinning thread case.

Good point except I've NOT used Loc Tite on any fastener once I've removed/replaced it. More trouble than it's worth. I also realize that this might only apply to the XB9R/XB12R subframe. |

I use the seat pins because I found that one of my threaded inserts was starting to get munged, not sure if the pins are track accepted though. |

When I mean ALL, I mean every stinking TORX bolt on the bike. They ALL suck. Dump em. RPITA they are. Thus the Loc-Tite point. This is a HARLEY specific OEM gig. Went through and dumped em on my 883 IRON as well. |

Very cool. I will, at some point in the next year regret not having purchased a bag of those fasteners. Heck, I'd like to have them for the car and ATV's also, to replace those stupid plastic rivets. |

I thought the torx bolts with the nice fancy shoulders are stainless steel. ... |

SS bolts do not strip as easily as the ones on the newer BUELL & HARLEY models do. |

Where are aluminum fasteners? None that I have found on either my XT or 1125R. |

All the torx bolt on my XB12Ss are stainless. I've used aluminum bolts on bicycles before. They are incredibly fragile and will stretch in a heart beat. There are none of those on my bike. I'm surprised when so many people have problems with these. I've neither stripped or lost any of the bolts on my XB yet. I loctite them all the time too. |

Must have been my day of production. Most likely they ran out and were awaiting a shipment. I have removed all the TORX bolts on my 08 SCG and they are indeed aluminum. Only half a dozen were steel. None were SS. Magnet check and sporadic white oxidation confirmed that. |
