Hi Guys, A few days ago i had accident and i crashed my xb12ss ;( Fortunately damages are not big but i need to change a few parts - right handlebar grip, frame puck, footpegs, brake pedal and the headers are damaged. Biggest problem i have with oil light. When i start the engine, in the first 30-45 seconds everything is ok. After that, oil light starts flicker and after another 15-30 seconds, oil light starting lights continously. Before crash everything was ok. Today i connected computer to bike and in ecmspy i don't have errors. Do You have any ideas? |

First, I would start the bike and look in the oil tank, and confirm the oil is flowing. It probably is. Unplug the wire to the oil light pressure switch, and turn things on. No need to start the engine. If the light comes on, you have a pinched wire that is grounding against something, causing the light to come on. Or, the insulation on the wire is 'damaged' somewhere and leaking to ground. Hope this helps, Dave |

I'd definitely sort it out before running the motor. It probably is electrical, but if it isn't I'd hate to see a $50 pinched oil line turn into a $4000 seized motor. |

Below is the photo of damaged headers: I watched engine once again and i found oil leakage on the rear cylinder near mount of headers. I have bad premonition and i think, that the rear cylinder cracked when headers hit the ground. Oil leakage is not big but probably oil presure is too low. I'm woeful |

If you had an oil leak up at the heads, the oil pressure would not be affected by it. The only oil supply to the heads goes through the pushrods. The oil going through the heads is oil returning to the crankcase and not under pressure. Check the oil pressure switch and wiring, like Akbuell mentioned, and go from there. You need to be systematic when approaching any diagnosis like this. |

I had that rear mount shear right off the cylinders when I endo-ed into a Corolla that thought the right strategy for making a left turn with zero visibility was "gas it". Bike ran great, no leaks or motor problems. Just parts of cylinder head dropping off in the driveway. Both mounts could transfer a LOT of stress to the heads and cylinders in the event of an accident. |

Unfortunately after crash i had operation in hospital (my shoulder was broken) and finally today i watched my moto once again. As @Akbuell advised, I unplugged the wire to the oil light pressure switch. When i turned things on, oil light doesn't comes on. In this situation, i think this is not problems with wire, grounding or electrical. I made photo of rear cylinder, where You can see oil leakage. Before the crash, engine was dry....

Have a look at the rear rockerbox PCV valve (that black plastic thing) a big change it got smashed between the engine and frame! |
