I have an '03 XB9S with a 1000 miles, bought used...I'm a smaller guy (150lbs), and reading in the owners manual regarding suspension set up, it seems that I should make some changes. Do any of you have any advice. I'm currently running 5 lines of preload up front with 1.5 of rebound and dampening, and #3 in the rear with 2 of compression and 1.5 of rebound. Any advice?!?! I'm pretty much a middle of the road (weekend warrior) type rider...nothing too technical. Thanks!

Well, there really is no "generic setup". A half turn of variance on the locking nut for the fork caps will negate any accurate rebound setting for instance, but from what I have setup at the track, you probably would do well with the following:

Fork Preload: 5 lines showing
Fork Compression 2 turns out from max
Fork Rebound 2 turns out from max

Shock Preload: About the middle of the range (For everyone over 170lbs, I usually have to crank it all the way down to even try to get reasonable sag)
Shock Compression 1.5 turns out
Shock Rebound 2 turns out

Normally, these "ballpark figures" are useless. I measure every bike to the rider, but you should get pretty good results nonetheless.

To see more about sag, etc. Go to www.roadracinghelp.com and pull up "Tech Articles" off the left menu and the October/November article will help you if you want to have a friend dial you accurately.
