I'm going to be doing the forks on the XB here soon, and am considering a big piston kit. Who has done this to their forks? How were the results?

Not an answer, but some related info. I recently spoke to traxxion dynamics and they are looking at making a cartridge kit for the big piston forks.

This could result in a REALLY NICE setup, but I am curious how long till we get bpf's with a compression leg and a separate rebound fork?

I have brought that up before. It seems like a great idea.

Seriously, I'd consider corresponding with Max at Traxxion.

I've done the AK-20 mods on 2 sets of forks now. Don't know if I ride hard enough to appreciate the BPF non-hysteresis damping offered by their design.

I'll talk to Max on Monday. The separate compression and rebound legs was a topic I was looking into some time ago. I'll bring it up to Max and see if it's possible.

I'll talk to Max on Monday.
You'll be glad you did.
Traxxion KNOWS Buells!
Good people too.

Please inform us of your findings. I had never thought of using a cartridge kit to separate the damping between the legs.

Slaughter & Glitch: Did traxxion have you add rear ride height (or front for that matter)?

I add height in the rear because I race with 190/55. I raised the front as high as it would go in the triple clamps. Played with ride height but went back to the original settings that Max had the shock set at - knowing that I was running the taller rubber.

To add, I'm not kidding. YOu can specify setup, and Max can set shock length and pre-set damping so once you adjust sag, you are about 80% there on your suspension adjustments.

I just told them what kind of riding I did, and how much I weigh, they took care of the rest.
I kept the ride height stock.
I highly recommend the AKs.
Traxxion really are the best at what they do!

Glitch is nearly local - I'm across the country and will always do business with Max. I've done 2 SVs and now have 2 XBs - and paid him for a 3rd but I totally destroyed it in a high-speed racing get-off.

Worth it

Ian,
Did you get a chance to give Max a shout? Any new info?

Why would you need more travel on xb front forks? I run 03's on my s1, and they have TOooooons of travel. Unless your talking Low forks.

I talked to Max, and he said not to separate the forks for compression and rebound. If one fails, there is absolutely no control over the spring. He would not do it due to liability reasons, and strongly suggested against it. I spose just get the big piston kit installed.
