Hi gang, I did a 3 day trip down south of Western Australia with 20 other riders on the weekend. Early on in the second day we were cruising along around 160 and the engine turned off, pulled over and discovered that the ignition fuse had blown. Fitted a new fuse, fired the bike up and it moved about 50mm and the fuse blew again. Fitted another fuse and when I pressed the starter button it blew immediately. Now I assume it is caused by a rubbed wire but my question is, were do I start looking? buelllord PS, I forgot to mention it is a 2007 XB12R (Message edited by buelllord on November 14, 2011) (Message edited by buelllord on November 14, 2011) |

I had the same problem and the offending wire was the rear injector wire where it passes over the rocker cover. |

I have fixed this kind of problem on two different Firebolts. Both had a wire running above the muffler and under the engine that rubbed through on the edge of a muffler bracket. |

Hi gang, I have finally traced the problem to a rubbed wire on the fuel pump, do any of you have a solution for repairing it? Remembering it has to live in fuel. buelllord PS, the manual says to discard and replace the drain plug with a new one, any idea as to why? (Message edited by buelllord on January 01, 2012) |

The wire chaffing was common on the 06 and some 07s, here is some details on a repair. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/442427.html?1236781570 I had the same thing happen to mine, luckily it was right at the end of the warranty period so the dealer put a new (and quieter) fuel pump in no charge. |
