Dying battery? "Won't start" doesn't describe it too much. My first thought though is old/dying battery and then possibly a bad ground. |

First thing to do is to check battery connections. The next step is to get the battery charged and load tested. Do those steps then let us know. |

I'd say your solenoid if it's not a batt issue does it try to start? will it crank and not start, Does it click, or nothing at all? A little more info will be beneficial to you |

happened to me ....if the battery is good, check neutral switch ground the wire on the switch...to check proper operation of the switch.it might save time looking for bad wires or loose connections....just say'n |

The 03 bikes have that dodgy kick stand switch. |

If the kickstand switch failed it would still start in neutral, he wouldn't be able to push start it. It sounds like a dying battery, but if the charge is good and the bike isn't even attempting to start, it is probably in the starter system. Bad wire, switch, solenoid, relay, starter motor, etc. |

it cranks over but acting like its not getting any fire. i smell gas but it won't start. fuel pump works. everything seems fine. wouldn't start after the motor would get hot. but it won't start at all now unless its push started. somebody told me its the magneto or stator but i doubt it. |

I tell you what I would do. The bike starts when you do not load the starter correct? First check your grounds including subframe then hook up a jump box to it and try it. Perhaps your starter first peak is demanding so much power your ignition gets to weak. if this is the case, first change your plugs, try it again sometimes it's not that they foul the gap wears and is to great with the depleted voltage from starter draw.If that don't fix it Batt change may be in order. |

i guess im not being very clear and thats my fault. the bike turns over strong and runs perfect when its push started. when i use the button to start it, i can hear the fuel pump kick over and stop, i hit the start button and it cranks strong, not weak. it just doesn't want to start. but when i push start it, it fires fine as soon as i drop the clutch. i don't know a whole lot about bikes but if the plugs were fouled, wouldn't it run poorly once i got it started? backfiring, coughing, that sorta thing?? |

Battery question still not answered. Answer that before anything else. Yes, it can be strong enough to turn but not strong enough to fire. If battery good, then plugs. Yes, they can be fouled enough to not catch but enough to run. Especially if you use it as an errand bike. Are you starting in neutral (green light)? |

Do you blip the throttle once you start the bike? If so, don't. It's a very bad habit that can lead to this kind of problem. |

no i don't. but they put autolite plugs in it when i had some work done on it and one of the wires wasn't snapped onto the plug so i'm guessing that was it. |

replace the plugs if it wasn't firing right and use grease on the boots |

If the plugs ns plug wires weren't working the you couldn't bump start the bike either, so it is unlikely to be either of them that is the main cause of the problem (although Autolite plugs are particularly rubbish IMHO!) I would think that it is either a sidestand (kick stand) cut out switch or a clutch cut out that is causing the problem. If the motor is turning over well it is equally unlikely to be the battery or starter motor at fault. If you sit on the bike with the clutch pulled in (in neutral) and the kick stand up will it start on the button? if yes then your problem is in one of the cut out switches. |
