Wind turbulance - I've been doing alot of rush hour highway traffic driving and I'm getting tons of front end movement from the turbulance. I've got a ceebaley front fairing on my XB9s and hand covers. I guess these are catching the cross currents. So I'm thinking about an "R" front conversion. Does the R poke through this crap? Never had this issue on my high speed runs on the backroads.

The only turbulence I notice on my R is when I'm around commercial trucks. So, I pass'm.

Is this happening around smaller vehicles for you?

the R fairing isn't what 'does the trick' IHMO
it's the forward lean, more than it is the windscreen/fairing

try running without the handguards, and see what that does for your head shake.

Isn't the CeeBailey like a big sail? The one's I've seen are pretty huge compared to the stock flyscreen/bikini fairing set up. I'd suggest trying a smaller wind break before spending a lot of time and money putting a new front end on your bike. I'd be very surprised to learn the hand guards have much effect on your front end problems.

I'm running a Laminar Lip, and it has helped push the wind up off my chest and makes commuting easier on me. I've been considering the Palmer brackets and small windshield option from them for just a little more weather protection.

Scroll down a few posts for pics of mine with the lip on it. Just to give you an idea of coverage, if you've not seen it or tried it on your bike yet.

Oh yeah, for comparison, I'm 5'10", wearing approx 32" inseam. I like 34's for my jeans though, so when I ride I don't have too much wind blowing up the pant leg, esp when it's colder out.

The Laminar lip doesn't cancel out the wind entirely, and certainly doesn't block rain from my face shield, but it smooths the air flow a great deal, and does make the freeway portion of my commute a lot more comfortable.

try removing the windscreen, then put it back and remove the handguards.

Regarding the size of the vehicles it seams like everything as I slolem through the mass of vehicles on rte 2 and 91. I do lean. I've actually made an "o" out of my hands to see if I'm causing the shake and it aint me. I'm 6 ft 2 in and my bike is actually a low. Once it warms up I will go back to the naked to see if it changes the head shake.

Yes the ceebailey is like a sail and that is why I'm thinking it and the hand guards are the cause.

FYI, I wear cocran army boots which go way up your leg and work well in the cold weather to block wind on the lower leg.

How about that double bubble thing on the "r" front, does that block more?

do you get shake only around other vehicles? What about riding at speed on the open road?

BTW- the reason we are asking so many questions is because this is not normal! We would like to help you address the problem rather than throw a bunch of money and parts at it that may or may not fix it.

R is not the answer. I have owned an S and the only time I had buffeting was when I ran behind or besides a big rig. My S model was actually an XB9SX so it had hand guards and they never posed an issue with turbulence.


However with the R I had buffeting with the stock windscreen. The air was directed directly at my helmet and I choose to change to a ST windscreen and now have a nice bubble to ride in with no buffeting. I choose the ST over the Double Bubble because of the increased pocket it created and also the issue with melting the instrument cluster when using the Double Bubble.


My suggestion would be to make a run without the Ceebaleys and check the head bearing tension.

My wife's XB12Scg only buffets behind tractor trailer vehicles. I've noticed significant improvements in head shake since I stopped holding on the bars so tightly.
