Hey guys I have a question, since I'm trying to get all the small glitches out of my bike under warranty I was wondering if any other rider had the same issue as I have with my fork. Ok yes I wanted a S but 09=no S only Scg so thats what I got. My problem is since day one my fork as been bottoming on many circumstance like heavy braking on not perfect road, just going fast on non perfect road and obviously landing wheelies sometimes. First I tough well it's because it's Scg and I'm a bit too heavy for it, then I did set it for my weight, well no changes so I did set it up for a 230lbs rider, still no improvement. Last week I went to the dealer for other problems and mentioned this one and the tech (a 140 wet rider)tried and found nothing wrong but did adjust my compression almost to the max (all the way to the max and then back off 1/4 of a turn. Well I went for a nice long road trip this week end and no improvement. Yep the suspension on very small bump feel harder but as soon as the bump get a bit bigger and I'm not talking very big here the fork bottoms out and my pipe even hit the road sometimes. The service manager at my dealer only seem to think that it's my weight+ me riding and he says that they could replace my oil for heavier one when they do the rest of my warranty work on the bike. Now I know that there isn't much that can go wrong in a fork but do you have an idea if it's my weight aprox 200lbs before gear, or there is something wrong with the fork. |

I've ridden an SCG several times. I'm about 235 before gear. I believe there are two issues at work here. First, the suspension has less travel. Less travel means less distance until 100% of the travel is expended. Second, the springs are not set up for someone in the 200lb+ range. Even at maximum settings, they just don't do the trick. I would buy Hyperpro (or brand of your choice) progressive rate springs front and rear for your weight. |

Ok well one of my option was to switch everything to a S suspension or go to a aftermarket spring like you just mentioned but the S is most likely where I'll go since I wanted a S in the first place. Thx for the quick answer. |

There are skads of people here who would trade you straight up for S components for your SCG. The SCG oddly was in short supply with people looking. While you have it out, I'd go ahead and upgrade the springs front and rear. You'll get a better ride. The SCG, for a larger person, is always going to have some limitations in suspension travel. This means a stiffer, less compliant ride. The SCG is the low rider of the Buell world. |

My problem with straight up trade is that I want a black fork like I have on my bike and there is no S black fork, but my Scg stuff will end up for sale here for sure. I guess I could always get the fork powder coated if I go the trade route. |

I had a similar issue at 250 with gear on but with the preload up it only happened on larger bumps and mainly when I was 300lbs with text books in a backpack the S doesn't turn in as fast as the Scg or hold a corner as fast but I like the taller bike much more. I also added higher rate springs, (buell race springs) and will probably never go back. I found that with this set up I could push confidently harder than the tires I was using and feel stable, the down side is that the lower didn't feel like it needed as grippy of rubber to hold the same line at the same speed. but it could be all in my head because i actually need to hang off the bike now to keep the lean angle under control ymmv |
