My son wants to move up from his ninja 250 to a ninja 6 or Gixxer 600. He likes the torque of my Uly (understandable after riding a 250!) but he's at the age where he thinks you need a crotch-rocket with clip-on style bars to look cool. I suggested he find a good used Firebolt as I know the XB's fairly well and would have no problem maintaining it. Besides, why drive a "cookie-cutter" bike that everyone and their brother has. There's several around here reasonably priced and I'm wondering if there's any years that are better than others or things to watch out for and also does it fit a 6'3" frame well? Thanks!

I have a 08 bolt and am 5'11" and it fits me fine just get new lower pegs. I have never had any trouble with it at all and i have 10000 on the bike now. I hope that helps ya a little. I would say if he is lookin at a gixxer 600 the bolt will be fine and alot more comfortable.

I'm 6'1" on a 08 12R. It is cramped for me on longer rides. I can manage, but my knees rest right inside the frame pucks, at 6'3" depending on his inseam it might be pretty bad. I've been thinking about getting the lightning pegs to stretch my legs out a little more.

I would suggest an SS for him being that tall. He can always put a set of clip-ons on it or even some clubmans.

If he wants a sportbike style seating position lets face it weather it is the ninja the gsxr or the firebolt he is going to be folded up a little bit. That is part of riding a sport bike. If he wants a that type of seating position with the torque of your Uly then the firebolt is the way to go. now if he is open to a more up right riding position then get him to try the ss as it would be more comfortable for his size but I am willing to bet if he is liking the way the jap bikes sit he will like the firebolt seating and style better.

I'm 6'3" and have never felt cramped on my Lightning. Heck, I don't even feel cramped on it not that I have lowered it with SCG suspension/kickstand/seat!

I am 6'2" and I ride an XB9sl. I didn't even know it was a low. It it fits me fine, but I spong bob legs, which fold up nicely into the fame/gas tank pockets.

An XB9s is a great choice. It is fast enough, look at the 1/4 v. a car to get some reality about bike speeds. I'll buy a faster bike as soon as someone passes me doing 135 in a corner.

I'm 6'2, and ride an XB12R. I got the S pegs, and a select seat. I've got the spongebob legs too. I can crawl all over the bike and put my weight where I want to and be comfortable.

I have bolt pegs (traction actually but still zero drop) streetfighter seat (pushes you back farther) and clubman bars are nearly as low as yours (maybe 1/2-1" higher?), just as far to reach, maybe a touch farther. I also installed the buell race springs for less compression in hard corners.
no issues riding at all, I would drop the bars another inch if I could

Maybe I should have as well.
Did all that, and swapped the tail section for an R, crossraods clipons, suspension, LSL foot pegs...
The streetfighter seat went with the S subframe when we swapped.

I'll be looking at my Bolt soon to see what can be done about mounting higher bars on there. Maybe a modified S top tree, and moving the fairing somehow.

Well we tried an XB9 bolt and it was nice, then I checked on insurance, Wow 900cc + 17 Y.O. = big bucks! The wanted $500 MORE a year than his Ninja 250. I found a Suzi SV650S (well at least it's a V-twin) in the classifieds here & bought it last week. Low miles, fits my son well, and cheap to insure, only $77 more per year. Don't know why so cheap as that thing scoots! For fun I got a quote on an 1125R for him, $1300 MORE per year! L.O.L. I'm sure he would love one though.
