I thought everything was moving toward ECMread and Tunerpro RT. Same cable either way.

That Erik Buell Racing ecm is a good bargain, by the time you make , or buy the cable, and add in the hours spent remapping, and learning what works, an ecm with a good working setup, ready to go is a good deal, of course you wont learn much, if does the job well, out of the box.

+1 l8br8ker. definitely true on ease of install and plug and play ability. but if you wanna tinker, make sure you know what you're changing.

Truthfully, doing a remap will not really give you any huge power gains, it will improve drivability, if you do not know what you are doing, it can be your worst nightmare.
The Buell XB motor is pretty much hot rodded from the factory, it puts the regular Harley motors to shame. A good exhaust, improved intake and careful tuning will net a very good running bike. A GSXR it will never be.
Personally, purchasing descent tires and having the suspension optimized for you so you can take advantage of the handling will do more to enable you to ride quickly and safely than any engine mod or tuning. Setting up the bike for you is a much better mod, unless you just like to cruise around, nothing wrong with that.
Just throwing out a different bang for the buck mod that most overlook.

Record changes in notebook/file.
Change one thing at a time.

Partly true.
Huge gains?
Huge is a relative term.
If all you're going to do is fix the EPAness of the ECM, then yes, moderate gains.
With an intake mod and a good exhaust, an XB9 can get up to 100HP, that I've seen.
I'm over 85HP and somewhere around 50ft/lbs with a K&N, and Buell exhaust.
I've got to go back to the shop and see if they still have my data from my last dyno run.
SMHD&Buell has been absorbed by Granite H-D, and I'm afraid that during the move, much of the Buell was left behind, lost and or sold. : (
Nightmare being you can grenade the engine, very true, it's already happened.

I wholeheartedly agree!
