I bought my first Buell last October and got the last Ulysses XT in the Tampa area. I love the bike, but it sure puts alot of heat on the frame/gas tank and my leg. I've ridden my friend's XB9 and there's no heat issue. But, he has an aftermarket muffler. Would changing my muffler let my Buell run cooler? If so, which muffler?

No.

Your Uly has a different frame and tail section than the XB9. Do to the design differences you will feel more heat. Get the Buell comfort kit, problem solved : )

Not to jack this thread, but I'm curious. Would you rate the heat from a Lightning Long or Super TT the same as a Uly? If there is a difference, what is the cause?

Pretty much the same, as they use the same frame and sub frame. Differences come in with the seats itself and the higher foot pegs may put your leg in the breeze more.

I owned an 06 Uly, then got an 06 SS, then converted it into a Uly, and never once felt the heat, except for that one time I rode it around a parking lot in first in shorts with a broken shifter and no foot pegs so my leg was inches from the header : )

Guess I've got alot to learn about the Buells. What makes up the Buell comfort kit? I'ld hate to walk into the bike shop and look like an idiot.

Here is the MASSIVE thread about the comfort kit!

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/482522.html

Long story short, its a kit from Buell (M1907.1AK) that includes a two piece right side scoop, header heat shield/mounts, and a new duct for the undertail/fan. This setup improves airflow to the rear cylinder and reduces the heat that will radiate to your legs. There is also a ECM update that will change the fan operation to take advantage of this kit.

Thanks Man! I'm going to order it tomorrow! Looks easy enough to install. I've been to lots and lots of rallys with my previous bikes. I need to get to some Buell rallys to learn

Skim through that thread before installing it, there are some good tips like don't remove the ECM bolt, as its a pain to reinstall : )

Just thought I would mention that there are heat blankets that fit under the seat
that Odie makes that seem to work really quite well. I use them with the comfort kit and some additional heat shields that I made from flexible adhesive heat shield material from DEI. All combined produces little or no heat even to 90 degree driving weather.
