So where is this info? Can you also tell me how to remove the rusty old studs without rotating the engine? For that matter I don't think I can even get the nuts off the studs right now. So any info would be welcome.

I have read that you can remove the upper shock bolt, move the shock out of the way, then remove the fan and do this. The rusted nuts made stop thinking that it would be easy and that it might need to wait. So can you get me going again? Got the new studs and might have the nuts.

Since it's no big deal to rotate the engine, and makes things much easier just to do it...

The rusty studs though I can give you something magical...

PB Blaster is the shit.
It's unfrozen many a nut and bolt for me.
It's the best!

What's a 12 header going to do to my AFV? I have one I can stick on while I work on the stock header. Or should I do the 12 header with new wrap and just use it. What's the difference? The 9 header is smaller diameter than the 12.

The 9 header is smaller diameter than the 12.
That's the difference.
I know some people use a 12 on a 9.
I don't know what the benefits are, if any.
If I had engine work done, 1050 kit, and some head work, I'd look into it.
The 9 header works fine, so that's what I'll stick with.
If you're using it, it'll more than likely not hurt anything, and you may feel a difference.
I have one I can stick on while I work on the stock header.
What kind of work are you talking about?

Wrapping and painting. I can either stick the 12 header on there and run it while I wrap the 9 header, or wrap the 12 header and swap them when the wrap/paint is done.

Stock 9 muffler.

Greg, it's going to take you less than an hour to wrap your header, on the bike.
If you rotate the engine (you'll need to if you're worried about the top 2 or three inches of the rear header) it'll take you less than two.

Andy, you betcha!

I could wrap it on the bike, but no way I could do a decent job with the high temp paint. Would take me at least 2 more hours to mask everything off. If the 12 header works, it might be a one time deal except I really want to pull the studs and replace them before the break.

IMHO I'd forget about the 12 header.
Just do it all at one time.
It may take you a couple or three hours start to finish.
Rotate, remove, wrap, paint, replace studs, put header back on, rotate, ride.
The paint will be dry before you get the studs replaced.
Or you could just buy the black wrap, and not worry about the paint.

Well, just remember, you're painting on fabric, so it won't be white for very long.

Black is good for covering up the ugliness.
Every time mine would start to look ugly, I'd just paint it again.
Not sure how white is going to look, or how long it'll last.

I did mine in orange. It looked great! I left the header on. The motor turned out orange as well but it cleaned up pretty good.

Foil works wonders for masking. I heard that on heer somewhere a few years ago. I did my last two bikes took about 30 min to mask the engine and then covered the rest of the bike with plastic. Came out good. Now that I have the engine out I will be doing some extra coats.

Greg, white paint looks like crap real fast. I tried and failed on a set of X1 headers. I used high temp paint and it still turned into a burnt sort of tan color everywhere - not just at the bends.

So where the hell did Dusty go with this critical information anyway? When I read the post it was almost like he wanted to sell this info to all takers.
