Ok, about four people have asked me about this white wire mod in the last two days. I have never heard about it, but on another thread "Worst ride ever" it came up. Does anyone know anything more about this or is it as stated, for euro models only.
fatbiker.co.uk/2008/08/16/white-wire-mo d-picures/ You can go to the thread "worst rife ever" for the actual link. I'm just computer stupid and dont know how to link it.

It is pin 8 on the gray connector of your ECM.

Anyone have any comments on this mod?

I'll look it up in the service manual and see were it goes and does. It seems like if it was that good of a mod that everyone would be doing it or have done it. My 07 SS doesnt seem slugish at all in that rpm range, or maybe it is and I just dont know the difference??

Comments after the article (or what ever that is) says its for Euro and Australian bikes 07 and earlier. This is not confirmed by me!

My 03 doesn't seem to have any issue either. It is the speed signal line, same signal that feeds the speedo.

Far as I know that mod was only for the XB's sold in Europe. US didn't have said wire for that.

I disabled mine using ecmspy awhile back. Doesn't seem to really make that much of a difference on my 06 xb9. However, at the same time I did some data logging which added fuel in that area. I can ride around at 3k without any problems, no jerking or sputtering, but I'm not sure if its the tuning or the white wire mod. From what I can gather it retards the timing at the 3k mark due to EPA noise standards. I left mine disabled since the race ecm disables it as well I believe.

If it retards timing at 3000 RPM, then the rear wheel speed sensor has nothing to do with this change (think about it).

The white wire being discussed here is the speed signal from the speed sensor that is in the transmission and drives the speedo. So this wire should have nothing to do with the timing unless there is a certain speed vs. rpm issue that they are trying to cover.

Ok gotcha...on a side note is the white wire mod that ecmspy can disable the one for timing?

Taken from the ECMSpy Tuning Guide
5.4 Noise Abatement Logic
The XB9 bikes up to and including 2007 model included logic to retard the ignition timing at
conditions corresponding to noise test points.
This results in a flatspot at around 3000 RPM.
The simple way around this is to remove the speed input to the ECM, this is a white wire on the grey
ECM connector, and hence this modification has become known as The White Wire Mod.
The ECM uses this as one of the criteria for retarding the ignition to meet noise legislation and hence
the function can be muted in the ECM.

OK, thanks. When I swap my turn signals that wire is coming out for a test.

The white wire is on European bikes only.
