I have read in numerous places that the engine sprocket bolt torque specs were high. For some reason I had it inside my head that it was 210+ ft lbs. In the service manual it states that it is 165 ft lbs. Am I missing something?

Also, I have been attempting to search all day. However, the search function appears to be down.

What service manual are you reading it out of? The older ones are wrong, you should use 240-260 ft. lbs.

Im sorry it is a 2009 and the manual was just purchased in september of 2009. I have seen the xb9-xb12 gearing swap tutorial, and mine appears to be different than the one shown in the pictures. Mine just appears to be a bolt. I went to my local HD service area on a whim and they stated that i should just follow the manual.

I have not been inside the 2009's but I believe the older ones had a shaft and nut. If yours has a bolt then it appears they have changed it somewhere along the way and the higher torque spec. may not be applicable to your year/model.

They did change the primary chain and sprockets for 2008, perhaps that new bolt is part of the setup.

So I am going to leave it at the spec in the book and keep an eye out for it loosening. Unless I hear otherwise.

A little locktite? Not a bad idea.
