If you put an s front on a R you have to change the wiring harness.

I have the '03 9R and I wouldn't change anything. I have the factory race kit and never put on frame pucks. Mine is white. I think if you wanted the S front, you probably should have gotten the S.

Anyway, keep your head down and get home so you can enjoy that thing.

I am thinking I am going to keep it as is for now other than changing the colors of it and changing a few other odds and ends.

On a side note since they do not make the helibars any more I was searching for another option to still have the clipon style front bars but have them be a little more comfortable and I ran across these one the 1125r board.

They are from American Sport Bike and I was wondering if anyone has used them on a firebolt and if so did you have to change any cables or wires?

I received an email from Al at American Sports Bike the other day after I made an inquiry, he said that someone was going to buy a pair and try them on a Firebolt, but until that happens or American Sports Bike tries fitting them they will not advertise them as fitting a Firebolt. I bet they will fit, though might have to change cables? I want to do the same to mine.

Congrats on the new toy! Summer 2010 will be my sixth season on my 03 9r, blue like yours, and even had the checkered flag decal package on it. I've slowly been removing the checkered flag decals off mine, leaving just the black decals, the "9r"s, and the "xb" on the fender.
I've got the race ecm, K&N filter and Spec OPS exhaust, pulled the snorkel and put an xb12 airbox in. Threw in a black windscreen, removed belt guards and footpeg "feelers"---after one got "ground down" a bit...
The only other "you might want to" items that I can recall right now is to look into the sidestand bolt recall (4-5 years ago?) and the headlight recall from a summer or two ago (if you end up keeping the r front end,....)
Belt-wise, these early models, depending on the date of manufacture, either came with the "weaker" belt or the subsequently improved belt. The part numbers of each are likely up here on BW somewhere. mine came with the original "weaker" belt, which I replaced at about 28,000 km (17,000 miles)....just 'cuz.
There's 53000 km on the bike now.
Aside from a cam position sensor that went bad last season, and a battery the year before, the thing is bulletproof.
I've been dreaming of finding a pristine set of white plastics for, you know, $100.... then I'd go to black wheels, black windscreen....
All I can say is....Enjoy!!
