I have heard nothing but awesome things about your dealership, really makes me resent the dealerships I'm stuck with here in fort lauderdale area. Anyway, I have an 09XB12Ss with just over 2500 miles. When I go to fire her up sometimes-and yes I wait for the yellow light to go out first-she will run for 3-5 seconds and then cut out. This isn't all the time, but it is happening more often. Also, the idle goes crazy, and cycles from normal to low to high, and makes a whiney hiss-almost like a quick blast of compressed air would make. My old man seems to think that it is a misfire, and then coughing out of the air cleaner. I don't know, but it is getting really annoying, the bike is only 7 weeks old, and I took it into the dealership once already, but they couldn't recreate the issue, so they couldn't help. Please help if you can, thanks!

Happy Holidays!

Have you checked for fouled plugs? Also a guy here not too long ago found the front spark plug wire was loose.

Hide the children, Froggy is a moderator!

For the starting issue, another thing to look for is a vacuum leak. The hissing noise makes me think that's what it is.

There is a vacuum leak test procedure for the intake manifold that the dealer should be familiar with.

my 09 bolt also dies most of the time after a few seconds on a cold startup. occasionally it runs on one cylinder on second start up. otherwise runs flawlessly. i just dismissed it to cold starts. it is stored inside with just 800 miles.

It should not fire on only one cylinder ever, (outside of overheating), you probably got a partly fouled plug.

thanks for your input. im not to concerned about it. this bike wouldnt have the mileage on it that it does if my other one didnt rip teeth off the belt (30k on original belt) I bought the 09 to leave stock and ride occasionally. i take it 09s do not have downloads or maps like harleys or 1125s

The 08+ bikes use the same fuel injection system including ECM as the 1125's : )

thanks for the info. so being a harley/ buell tech knowing my bike is a 09 and how often new updates are published is it not possible that they could have come out with a new "download"? i say this because this makes 3 09s doing close to the same thing all bought new about 2 months ago.

There has been at least one update to your bike since it left the factory. Will it help your problems? I can't say. Some other 08+ owners that have had issues with idle hunting and starting issues resolve it by having both the Idle Air Control and ECM replaced. I don't think the ECM is the cluprit, but when they replace the ECM they have to program it by loading the newest software, and that along with fixing the IAC resolves the issue.

ok cool. i havent had issues with idle really. this is the first time i would have to find a dealer worth touching my bike. usually im working in a shop and get it done myself. ive also been curious about trying to warranty a scuff in powder coat on front wheel. i know its not from riding. looks like from installing tires. thanks for the info again

Bumpus in Murfreesboro is probably your best bet, they are a board sponsor here. (Shameless plug : ) )
