Got a chance to ride to work with the Large RSS today. The fan never came on until I turned off the bike in the parking garage. I have never even been able to make it close to work with the fan not coming on. The small RSS let the fan come on when I tested it riding to work ... but the fan did turn back off before I got to work. With the large RSS it never came on at all. I see what happens on they way home today since it will be around 80 degrees instead of 65.

Is the large fan noticably larger then the smaller? Does it look out of proportion from the left side etc...?

If this large RSS works so well why isnt it stock on these things?!?

Thinking about it...

Jraice. Do it. The large scoop makes a HUGE difference in comfort. I also have the underseat liner from special ops and I feel zero heat when I ride even in warmer weather. I think the total of $75 was more then worth it on my bolt.

Oh. And to answer ur question about size. The RSS is larger then the LSS. But anyone I ask that doesn't ride a buell hasn't been able to even see it. But anyone that does ride a buell sees it and starts asking questions immediatly. The buell techs at my local dealership questioned me about mine as soon as they got a look. They now have one on each of their bikes. It's a function over figment thing. Do it and you won't be unhappy.

+1 to John's comments. I put on an RSS from American Sport Bike. It made a huge difference.

It doesn't match the Buell LSS but doesn't look that bad.

What year XBs are you guys riding? My '09's fan never comes on while riding, and it has seen some very high temps (110deg, slow traffic for a while)...

I installed my large RSS on Monday. My fan isn't coming on nearly as much.

My opinion as to why it is a different shape than the LSS: I belive it is the same "area" as the LSS (might have to do a little geometry math to figure it out). The RSS can't be as "tall" as the LSS because of the headers. So to get the same air capacity, I think they may have made it wider.

RSS isn't as tall, but is wider than LSS.

Wavex I'd get that looked into.

110 deg slow traffic should have that fan spinning...

I'd be worried if it DIDN'T come on.

Thanks J, interesting. It does work fine when I stop the bike, but never had it come on during a ride. Maybe they improved the oil cooler enough for the '09? (said with a lot of hope and little expectations). Maybe other '09 owners can chime in as well?

Guess I'll have to have them check it out... the dealer did not touch my bike since I rode it off their lot when I bought it, and I was really hoping to keep it that way since the technician who went over the bike with me when I bought it told me I had to have HD do all services, mainly because they "check valve clearance every 10k on these Buells"................... YEAH RIGHT!!!

David, I've had my fan come on my 09 scg in 85 to 90 degree weather while riding.

No fan on the ride home from work either. Looks like the large scoop stays installed.

Wavex, yeah that is a scary tech but I'd still look into it.

Mine comes on almost every time I run it unless its real cold, but I like to use the throttle.

Even just cruising though in warmer weather it will come on...

I know the threshold for coming on while the bike's running is different then after you turn it off, perhaps the sensor for while its running isnt working?

I dont know...

I'd definetly look into it though.

Oh and my Ss is an 09 as well. Had some engine problems earlier, but I dont think they would've effected the heat TO much... And it still comes on the same amount now (problems fixed) although I have yet to switch to synthetic since the repairs (was running it in the past, not a huge difference in how often the fans on).

But yeah low speeds anywhere near 100 degrees and no fan would alarm me.

I have an 09 Ss and my fan comes on all the time! I'll be getting the RSS shortly...although I have noticed that since my 1K service where I switched to syn oil it has not come on as often, but it has been much cooler out as well, so that's a factor.

Does the large rss fit the xb12scg?

It'll fit an Scg but note that it is a two piece deal. You need the inner And outer scoop.

There's an inner scoop that replaces the stock scoop using the three stock screws.
The large outer scoop mounts to the inner one. You need to purchase the screws from the dealer or find some at a hardware store.

I do not know the size, pitch or thread.

The other scoop, the small non-comfort kit one that is stock on the 2010 R & S bolts on with the three stock screws.

I installed the large rss today an took a "spirited" 40 mi or so ride averaging about 75-80, temps in the upper 70's / low 80's. After shutting it down, no fan. I still get a bit of heat but it's better. That scoop is hotter than heck after shut-down. I'm liking it. Oh yeah, get the bolts at a hardware store for $ .40 a piece instead of $2.80 a piece at the dealer.

Ahh, you went for the 20 percent off deal...and rightfully so. Don't get worked up too quickly. When I called to see if my stuff came in they (not the Chicago shop) said the scoops were there but not the hardware (pn#an1005.3fss). It was on back-order until October 2nd!! Who knows when they would have called me. Maybe this is the hold-up. Call them if you ordered this as well and have them ixnay the hardware, get them (three 10-32x5/8) at your local hardware store like I should have (and eventually did) in the first-place. For the record, I recently ordered a couple of things from the Chicago shop and they showed up in a very timely manner (and they had to order them). Best of luck to you.
