So I went out last week and bought a brand new 2009 Xb12ss Cherry Bomb red. I love the bike, love the uniqness of it. My last bike was a 2009 Triumph America. What I'm not loving is for only having the bike for 5 days it has already been in the shop 2 times. First time a rear blinker assembly had to be replaced and now its an oil leak and the check engine light is on. What I'm hoping is this isn't normal for the XB bikes. All the research I did before buying said that although Buell had some problems in manufacturing a while ago they had worked most of those out. Anyways, I look forward to riding my new bike and getting to know everyone on the board  | ||

Beautiful bike! Welcome to BadWeB and Buell ownership. Generally speaking the XBs are are dead nuts reliable. I have an '06 that has never had any problems at all. I would guess with your little issues fixed, you should be able to enjoy the bike with minimal issues, if any. --Sean | ||

Same bike I bought! Loving it. I have had a few issues. Burned a lot of oil for first 7000 miles. Around that time I had the front exhaust clamp fall off, but for all I know I could've installed the drummer improperly and it stressed it causing the screws to loosen (doubtful...) but that is just a simple inspection, if your paranoid you can check all the critical fasnters and loctite them. Harleys shake things loose sometimes, so do Jap bikes. Anyways, I took it in to get the header replaced (scratched) and said while its in the shop can you guys do the leakdown compression test. Found some issues in the motor, fixed it and now I have around 700 miles or so on the bike post repair and it hasnt burnt a drop of dino oil since, and its not even fully broken in yet (new rings) so that should continue, especially after switching to synthetic. As long as you have a good dealer I wouldnt worry, these bikes are pretty bullet proof, I mean mine was running on 16 percent leakdown with poor compression and still ran HARD. Not even a very noticable change in power, just oil consumption. Just change the oil to synthetic after 1000 miles (or if you broke it in easier, maybe do another 1500-2000 on dino then switch) and keep changing every 2500-5000 after that and you'll be fine. No valves to mess with, great bike, LOTS of fun in the twisties, the Ss in particular is great on the bumpier roads. Im in love with mine Oh and get a drummer, doubles the fun factor! | ||

If you trade me your cherry bomb wheels and plastics for my orange wheels and thrust blue plastics your bike wont leak oil or have electrical problems. It'll also be faster. | ||

OMG!!! thats a deal!!! lol. I actually got my bike back tonight. Had a rocker box gasket leak. I've done some googling and that seems like something that happens. The check engine light was from where my battery strap broke. They had to order a new one but they fixed me up for the time being. I have to say although I am a little dissapointed in having to take the bike in 2 times in less than a week, I can't complain about the service my that my dealer gives me. When I first called this morning to bring it in they told me it would be Wednseday before they could look at it. I got there at 8:30 and talked to the salesman that sold me the bike and he told me that he would make sure they looked at it today, and they did. Even got it all fixed up. I kinda feel like redheaded step child when I am at the dealrship. Harley everywhere and then me an my sportbike. Hopefully I'm all sorted out and can start to have some fun!! | ||

Hey Rayne451, I noticed from your profile that Longhorn H-D is your servicing dealer. Is that where you purchased the bike? I didn't think they were a Buell dealer. At least when I visited them a couple of years ago. The salesman talked down Buells as having a homeless market which I find interesting if they are a Buell dealer now. Just curious | ||

Yes, The salesman told me he had a ton of Buells. I almost got the feeling the dealership was forced to sell them. They only have a few on the floor but he gave me the impression they had a ton in storage. When I told him I wanted the SS in cherry bomb red he didn't even look it up to see if they had it he just said he had some. He said that since they are one of the largest dealers around the DFW area that he had over 500 bike either on the floor or in storage. That included the Harleys. | ||

Well, good luck with your Ss, I bought an '06 Ss (the first year they came out ) with build #6. It was a Factory/Company owned bike with 2300 miles on it at the time. Now with a couple years and 12000 miles gone by, I have had the best luck with it. I think it was an ex-press corps bike because the tires on it were really scorched up the side walls (the dealer actually threw in a new set of tires on the deal). My point is that anything discovered early on was taken cared for with lasting performance & reliability. I was lucky in a way because I never had to chase any early production gremlins, they must have been corrected for me by the factory. Be patient with any early warranty stuff and you will be rewarded with a great bike shortly thereafter. | ||

Rayne451, I see you live in the DFW area too. I got my 09 Cherry Bomb SCG in November of 2008 from HD of Dallas, in Allen TX. The only problem that I have had is the brake line recall. I have not had a problem since that. Like everyone says, the bike has been a strong performer no matter how hard I beat on it. | ||

His rear pipe looks awful blue for being that new of a bike. Mine has changed color too, but not that bad, and it's an 06 | ||

I have the same bike, cherry bomb '09 Ss, and your headers look way better than mine...my rear has blued further down and my front has sections that are blued. I plan on getting it ceramic coated once I save the necessary pennies, so I'm not worried about it. | ||

I just talked to the dealer ship and I was told that the bluing was normal. I was told the back cylinder gets hotter than the front and not to worry about it, but if I wanted I could bring it up there and they would ride it around the block and check it out. He also told me to make sure I'm using the highest octane fuel in there I can, and to stay away from the cheap gas places. So unless someone here can give me a little more insight I wont worry about it for now. | ||

no more insight is needed that all sounds correct to me. if it bothers you and you don't want the ceramic coating than hand polish the headers with sand paper and polishing compound. (just not at the same time) it will turn it all silver for a while then the pipes will turn gold edit: look at my profile pic for an example (Message edited by delta_one on September 04, 2009) | ||
