Need a little help here - the latest XB9x's have an NTN bearing for the idler - orange colored seal makes it fairly obvious. Earlier builds (like mine) had a black seal. The number can be read off the seal on the external side without removing it. I need to know what is after the 5203.... could be like 5203LLH or something like that. I got the number off a display bike at the International MC show in Cleveland, then promptly lost the darn paper I wrote it on.
Anyone want to run out to the garage and take a look??

6203LUA

The only other marking on the outboard side is NTN.

On my bike, orange bearing seal - I'm sure it is a 6203 and not a 5203.

If you find a replacement please post it for the future.

hmmm..
The 6000 series is 12mm width, single row.
The 5000 series is 17.5mm width, double row.
The ID & OD dimensions are the same.
Regardless of the numbering, I'm sure the bearing width is 17.5 mm (I've physically measured it twice)
The damn 6's and 5's look almost the same on these things....

from http://www.ntnamerica.com

Double-lip contact rubber seal one side (LU)

only thing close to the "A" is 2A, Shell Alvania #2 grease, MIL-G-18709A (/2A)

I'm not getting anywhere, but thanks for your help. I may email them and ask if it's special. I'd like to be able to replace only the bearing - Buell wants to sell us the whole pully assembly.

I wonder if anyone else has a different number, who knows how many times Buell has changed the production bearings.

BTW, my early bearing is a 5203-RS, but the 5 may be a 6. Don't see a Mfg. on it. Again, when you start looking at the dimensions, it leads you to the 5000 series spec.

I went and looked again. I'm as sure as I can be that it is a 6. Glasses on, glasses off, flashlight at different angles, etc.

I went through some crap to get a bearing last Friday so I understand.

I have a new theory. Maybe the change from a black bearing seal to an orange bearing seal was also a change in bearing type. Maybe they had problems and changed from a single double row bearing to two single row bearings. Just a WAG on my part, but it would explain why you must buy the entire assembly - they don't want to support or explain 2 different pulley/bearing combinations.

Roc,
I recall the one I saw at the show being 6203... also, but it just didn't make sense with the dimensions, so I was second guessing myself.
The double bearing idea crossed my mind, too, as your part number is for a single sided seal. The 6000 series is 12mm wide. I guess the only way to tell would be to pull it and measure the overall width of the bearing(s). If it's 24mm wide overall, and you can see a split in the center of the inner race(s) that would be the case. That would also verify a design change from the early production run. Next time you have it apart, if it's not too much trouble, see if you can take a look. I think your on to something.
