So it's REALLY raining here in houston right now! The water is a few inches from getting in the house, so I splashed my way out to the carport where my XB is parked to see how things are going. Not good! Water is about half way up the primary case now, I'm sure my exhaust is totally filled with water. The bottom of the door on my girlfriend's Scion a few inches under water. I hope the weather stripping on her doors holds! Sooo... what potential damage do you guys think I might be looking at?

Do you have some 2X4s you can roll the bike ontop of to get it a few more inches off the ground? Or a deck or something a little higher?

Not a real problem while wet, the bad happens through the drying.

As soon as the water drops, Dear Lord, spray WD40 everywhere.

Run your engine, preferably go for a good long ride. Oh, and make sure nothing is behind. Wet exhaust will blow about 30 feet, don't ask me how I know.

Thanks for the tips so far. Yeah 2x4 would really help, mainly because the heavy rain fell from about 2-5 AM this morning. I didn't see the storm coming, so by the time I got up at around 4 AM, it was a little to late and the water height had pretty much peaked.

Thats what pitbull stands are for ; ).

I would say as SOON as you have a chance, start it up.

Even if its to wild out to ride, I would start it up and let it get real nice and hot to boil all the water out of the pipe and internals.

I have a blower for motorcycles but I would use some sort of blower to dry it off real good, exterior wise I cant imagine its much different then regular riding in the rain, and the engine running for a while will get anything out of the inside real fast.

I drove through that crap yesterday at 4:30am. I went from the office at FM1960 & Kuykendahl all the way to my neighborhood off Barker Cypress & West Rd. Many parts of 1960 had cars stalled out due to high water. I made it down to Hwy. 6, some of that water was deep!!! I could not get through to my place at West Rd. or by taking Longenbaugh. Had to go all the way down to FM 529 and back up Barker. My little (soon to be collectors item) Pontiac G6 made it through ok. I thought I was in a boat at times. Sorry about your bike!!!

I wouldn't start it right away. I haven't sank a Buell, but have sank a few Jeeps in my time. Water can get in where oils and grease can't get out. The first thing I would do is remove the muffler and empty it. There are three chambers in the stock muffler. It will be hard to just "blow it out." Any water left inside will cause very fast rust issues. The second thing I would do is change all the oil (engine and primary). Don't forget the filter. You don't want to take a chance with water intrusion. I see that you have the breather reroute. How far did you bring those hoses down? Make sure they are all clear. After that I would check any bearings that were under water. Like I said before, water can get in where oils and grease can't get out. Better to spend a little money now, than rush to destruction, because you wanted to start it.

when its over, i would remove the muffler and try to get as much water out by tipping it side to side then get a vacuum and try to suck out what you can. there will still be water in there so take it out for a long ride to evaporate the rest out. I wouldnt try to run it untill you do the first step, trying to start up the bike when you havent even tried to pour out what you can isnt wise

i wouldnt be worried about anthing else but that

FWIW, I have gotten my Uly submerged in water up to the bottom of the seat(dug in and stalled several times in a deep sandy creek). After I rode out, water was shooting out the exhaust for a hundred yards or so, but no ill effects. I'm sure the SS muffler will be fine.

My advice is also based on years of dirt bike and mx, even underwater mx, oh yeah.

If it starts, run it.

Again, thanks for the help. I see some of you are more the super cautious type. I guess I couldn't say the same for myself, I went ahead and fired it up! It seemed to be fine, aside from blowing a ton of water out of the muffler. Rides fine too, you never would've thought it was sitting in a foot and a half of water. I made sure to blow it out REAL good on my way to work this morning.
