Is there any difference between the pipe that came with the race kits, does it vary by year or model at all? I just noticed and bought this pipe, but time was too short to really look into it. I had never seen one so cheap, so i figured what the heck. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ewItem&item=200325977943

Yeah, The whole kit, I already have the ecm and filter. Figured I will probably sell them and wind up with a free pipe! Not sure how this slipped through the cracks, but I'll take it! Anyone know what years and models the ecm will fit?

There is two versions of the race pipe. The first year for '03 models, which were only the 9's. They were a flat silver color.

The next model fit the newer style belt/idler pulley. It's a little longer than the first version, shiny silver finish.

The first model race pipe will interfere with the new style belt tensioner. It can be made to work by making some clearance in the right side exhaust pipe so it doesn't hit the pulley.

Just my own observations, yours may vary.

Thanks guys, would definitely say I got lucky, I'm glad its a real race can, compared to the other "custom" race can on ebay..lol. I'm interested to see how it performs.

Wow, that's a smoking deal. Are all the parts new?!! Not that it would matter because the can looks to be in great shape.

About half a year ago, there was some person who was buying up all of the race pipes on ebay. Really drove up the price. I've always wondered what he was going to do with all those race cans.

You should turn around and sell the whole set up for $900.00 and buy a micron set up while there still around then you would have the headers and pipes since you already have the ecm and filter?????

OR better yet a TI force set up there around a $1000.00 and not many people have them PLUS there badass.

http://www.tiforce.com/2003/models_page/other/buell.html

If you posted it in ebay I bet you would get it just put a reserve on it unlike the person you bought it from did.

Ive seen just the pipe go for 600+ and you have the whole package.

I think the days of $600+ race pipes is gone, at least until the economy turns around. I highly doubt the lucky SOB who stole that auction can turn around and get $900 for the kit. Closer to $600 for everything.

I love the tiforce headers, but can't stand how the outlets look. It would almost be a dealbreaker for me because I'm not keen on cutting and rewelding an otherwise quality piece. Plus, I prefer to have the chin fairing, or at least have the option. I don't think the tiforce gives you that option.

Normally I would agree on both points, but:
1) since the tips bolt on, simply make your own to your liking and bolt them on instead, and
2) with a pipe that good looking, I may be willing to forgo the chin fairing!

Cool. I didn't realize the tips were bolt on. I still think the fairing would look better. The best part of the header is the X, which would still be visible with a fairing installed.

Is there more than one version of the Tiforce for the XB? I seem to recall seeing different descriptions of what parts are titanium on that exhaust. I thik the can is Ti, but is there one version with a Ti header and another version with a stainless header?

Good point Fastxb12r, I would have to come up with some other tips for the force. But as Andymnelson stated, easily done. Hmmm ... Micron, that could be nice, might have to look into that, never priced them, but the performance looks better.

I have found the Buell Race Pipe is NOT a good pipe for the street. Likes to spend too much time in the upper RPM range and lacks grunt from 3000-4000.

Your results may vary!

$127!!??

Doesn't your conscience bother you in the least?

You freaking STOLE this!

If you have the 03 XB9, I believe that'll bolt right on. TPS re-set of course.

I have ridden a couple early race-kitted XB9 bikes on the street. They are just a bit more "top end" oriented but they have lost the mid-range "dip" in the power.

For $127, I'd be tempted to mount it, get the TPS reset and run with it. Sure, you could get into tuning but the early XB race kits really did work pretty well "out of the box.

Did I say you really should be ashamed of yourself for "stealing" this kit? (Intake, Exhaust, ECM)

(think it's for an XB-9, not a 12)

damn paint shaker, i'm glad to hear you say that about the race pipe. i have a race pipe and i agree, i'm spending too much time in the upper rpm's than i'd like to. almost miss my stock pipe.

I put my Spec Ops Pipe back on. It has much better pull from about 3000 rpm.

I've found that the Buell Race Pipe is a great pipe for the street. After taking off the Drummer due to the never ending droning in my helmet, I installed the Race Pipe and love the sound and have noticed no noticeable difference in power for street riding. My bike rarely sees much over 4K rpm around town. Obviously there is a difference in HP when looking at the dyno numbers, but I haven't noticed any difference in HP with the Race Pipe. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for a street bike.

I loved the race pipe on my 12R. Never noticed any power dip. I had the complete kit (race ecm and k&n).

Joel - I've never owned a special ops, but I've heard one on a 9 and it sounded awesome. Quite a bit louder and deeper than the race pipe on my 12. I was very tempted to buy one before I decided on the Micron.

If you sold your set up for 600 then with the extra money added it would be like buying the race pipe but instead your getting a full exhaust not just a slip on.

I believe one of if not the only supplier that still has micron exhaust in stock is here..http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/9085.html

BUT the TI force looks WAYYYYYY more bad@$$ for 100 or so more.

Iether way you got a hell of a deal so whatever you do you won.

The race pipe WILL require the race ecm or race ecm tune. The Spec Ops is bolt on and ride.

The race pipe has a slightly lower tone than the Spec Ops pipe. The race pipe is also a tad more quiet at idle. I rarely, if ever, am below 3,000 RPM so I can't comment on how any of the pipes respond in that range.

Keep in mind, the race pipe was designed for racing. It likes the upper RPM range. I love it on the track, just not the street. Your results may vary.

Paint_shaker - If you have already had the ecm reset from switching from stock to performance pipe, do you know if it is necessary do have the ecm reset each time if you switch between performance pipes, drummer to pro race to special ops? Or is the difference close enough for the bike to learn by a good 60 or 100 mile ride?

Both the Spec Ops and Drummer pipes are designed to be direct bolt on replacements for a stock pipe.

The instructions provided by Odie for the Spec Ops pipe were; Bolt on and ride at or above 3,000 RPM for approximately 15-20 miles. A TPS reset may be needed on 07 and earlier models.

I am not sure the specifics for the Drummer. The performance is nearly indentical to the Spec Ops. The procedure would probably be the same. The Drummer also requires a simulator for the interactive exhaust value or to have it deactivated.
