I am thinking about buying a new Buell to replace my xb12s but I'm actually nervous because every dealer around here has dropped Buell except one. Harley is laying off tons of people etc etc etc... so, is anyone else worried about this or am I just over-reacting?

You are in Jersey, your only choice should be Liberty. Buell is not going out of business, they are just thinning the heard of incompetent dealers.

What Brumbear is talking about is that Erik has a band and can fall back on that. Also, read 25 Years of Buell, you will see that Buell is nowhere near going out of business. : )

The folks out here in SoCal have mentioned to me that Buells are somewhat better selling overseas, so they have had their in-store stocks cut back. But no where have we heard anything about Buell pulling up stakes.

I think Buell has a pretty good handle on "lean". Small company with big ideas selling awesome American bikes at a reasonable price. The economy will improve just as it always has and will after a slump and Buell and HD will chug right along with it me thinks.

Let us hope that they'll be around for a long long time.

Hey there, yeah I was married and already divorced... great huh?! I haven't been on the tmc forum in a while : ) I want a new/different bike this year and I'm driving myself crazy wondering if I should get another Buell, the lack of dealer support scares me, but I don't like any other bikes nearly as much, so we'll see.

Ear, be patriotic and get another Buell!

I'm in pretty steady contact with Buell on a corporate level as a result of our magazine's Red White and Buell project bike. From what I've observed, they are not thinking about going out of business in any way. Buy with confidence.

Question: If you were increasing sales, market penetration, profits and customer satisfaction would you go out of business?

Buell sells most it's products overseas and has a nicely balanced market. I'd not call them a monopsony but they have planned well.

By the way . . . . in the 20+ years I've been around Buells the current economic times don't even move the needle on the "there are rough times" meter . . . take a look at 1986 in the world of Buell.

You ain't kidding. The local walmart has been out of 9mm for awhile now and a 100 box jumped $4 over night.

I had to go 3 places and at each one . . . "oh, you should get here when we open, we're generally out by noon".

The election did some good for the economy.

In a feature called "The State of the Industry - 2008 Final Report" in Motorcycle Consumer News (Jan '09), only Buell, Kawasaki, Victory, and Yamaha (Valentino Rossi's help?) showed projected sales numbers in the black. These companies sold more in '08 than in '07. Everyone else was down. The projections are as follows: HD(off 15%), BMW(off 12%), Ducati (off 7%), KTM (off 15%), Suzuki (off 14%), and Triumph (off 5%). Honda was just about dead even. The numbers seem to favor Buell and a few others for now, but we'll see. Whatever the case, those of us here in the US are in for a heck of a tough time in '09.

Good luck to us all.

PS Fastxb12r is right, 10mm ammo prices are ridiculous... if you can find it.

Harley needs Buell sales now. These bikes are more affordable than 30k Geezer glides.

If you'll notice the last two new HD offerings, both are Sportster models, less than 15k.

Harley needs Buell sales now.

If that is the case, they also need to learn how to position and advertise them...

I'm local to you (Cranford) and I use Liberty in Rahway. The old Edison Harley is now Highroad Harley davidson & Buell. They were bought by the same person/people that own Liberty so I would expect their stock, service, and parts to be on par with Liberty. I recomend the City X, 12R, and 12X.
