I pick up my '05 XB9SX tomorrow. I'll be trailering it since it'll be 20deg. and snowy here in WI.

I have a couple questions: 1) What is a good "swingarm and front stand" to purchase for lifting the front and rear of the CityX for tire changes and oil changes. 2) I've heard that the original CityX had a recall on it; any idea why? If yes, do you know if a dealer will still honor the recall? 3) Anyone ever put a thumbbrake on a Buell to control the rear brake? 4) Are there any issues with the CityX that I should be aware of?

One more question--were the above technical questions that should have been addressed in the Knowledge Vault?

1. The muffler is designed as two jack points, front and rear and is marked for this. It works fine without stands. I just use a block of wood under the jack point I need after tipping it over some on the kikstand to get it up enough.

2. Any recalls can be checked at any Buell dealership- even by phone. All you need is the v.i.n.

3. Stunters do it and there are stunters on this site that might be of more help.

4. The bike is addictive....

Wimp. : )

Oil changes can be done fine without a stand. When you are ready for a stand, asb sells Pit Bull brand stands. I will be getting a pair soon.

The CityX has none that I know off hand, and if it did the dealer legally has to do it.

Not that I can recall, but I am sure its been done.

My only issues are with the police. : )
Keep an eye on the forums, you will see the routine of things to check and common issues, like loose battery connections causing weird electrical issues or no start conditions.

I had a new'05 City-X when they first came out. I did 13,000 miles in just over a year. No problems at all. The only thing it went back for was one TPS reset after I installed the Buell Race Kit, and tires.

A great bike for sure.

I HAD to have a Uly when they came out in '06 though!

I have the same bike. I love the hell out of it. I've had other bikes but this bike is unlike any other. It has an attitude and character to it that is just a thrill to ride. Put almost 9,000 miles on last year. The only issues I have had were enviromental. The previous owner stored it outside a lot. The clutch cable broke at the handle, looked like corrosion where the cable went in. $35 and a 1/2 hour to swap it out. The other was the turn signal switched stopped working. I took it apart and cleaned the contacts and all was well again. It was simple fix also. Took about 1/2 hour also. The bike is amazing simple which is another thing that makes it that much more enjoyable.

Happy Buelling!

Welcome to the board!

How much did you have to fork over for your CityX? I am thinking of getting one, and giving my Blast to my wife.

Welcome to BadWeB!

From your questions i have to assume that this isn't your first bike. How long have been
riding and what kind of bikes? How did you come cross BadWeB?

Why are you curious about a thumbrake? I've installed handbrakes before. Would it be for trackdays or something? Or are you handicapable? (sorry I had to ask : ))

YT, welcome to the Buell madness : )

By looking at his profile, he's fairly local to me.
The thumb brake is because of a artificial right leg, according to his site.

If you look around his site, you'll see the man has owned a few bikes : )

YT, I've sent you an email about our local Buell group.

Yktinwi, I don't want to tell you what you want but after reading your comments on your web page (very ineresting / impressive read BTW) I cant help but think a Uly or ST wouldn't be more fitting to your liking. the ST and Uly would be easier on your knee and are far more comfortable for high miled 2 up riding as their seat is longer.

BTW if you find the brakes lacking on the Buell (I doubt you will) the 09 4 piston set up is a direct bolt on.

FWIW YT I have a paralyzed left leg so you aren't alone as far as adapting your bike in order
to continue riding. Steve, his wife Toni, and the Brew City Buellers are great people, and
the Buell community in general is without peer in my (30 year) experience riding motorcycles.

Thanks to all for the replies and suggestions. I look forward to meeting and riding with SE Wis. Buellers--pretty much any time, any place.

The past two winters have been particularly hard for us "year 'rounders".

Sub-Zero temps, snow, ice have been worse the past two years than the past 2 decades.

I used to ride all winter, but that was in high school. Now, theres about 2-3 times more traffic. aaahhhhh.......development! I was also riding on a 1969 Suzuki GS 400. I was'nt too worried about dumping that bike. My XB? Its a much nicer bike!

Have you gotten to ride it yet? May I suggest removing the stock mirrors and throwing them in the nearest ravine or bottomless pit?

The motodeluxe bar end mirrors on ebay work very well and look a million times better than stock.

Mine used to look just like yours. I think these bikes look ok stock, but they can look so much better with just some small modifications.

I have'nt even ridden mine yet, but just sitting on it, I can tell the best view I'm gonna get out of the mirrors is at my shoulders! Hell, I've already got a huge "List 'o' Sh&t" to do to it. I was looking into Dark Horse sliders, but decided to make my own. I think I'm going to make them look like old school baby moons. I'm also lookng at a few other parts to make out of billet. I'm thinking aluminum with clear blue anodizing. Also, seeing as mine is 100% stock (some serious virgin material), the list keeps getting longer! GNARLY!!!!!
