I was taking apart of the faring and found a few things were damaged in the light assembly....
and they will be replaced under that factory recall, but thats neither here nor there....

Would it be a bad idea to take-out the low-beam shroud so that both lights are the same (highs)....?

And that would not make them the same anyway.
The high beam cone is shaped differently.

yeah, high beams are not good in fog/rain mist.
your gonna wanna keep a lowbeam.

and if you always have your high beams on, it really pisses off the person in front of you. (do you ride behind any one you like?)

I have the "recall headlights" and after adjusting them according to the service manual the low beam seems to have descent light output, I very rarely have to run the high beam.

I think the new recall low and high beam light patterns are kind of strange, I have not decided if that is good or bad at this point, I am just happy that there is light when compared to the degraded originals.

If you polish the spoon the low beam improves slightly.

but it is all the rage with kids nowadays. from what i hear the bulb isn't the biggest part, it's an amplifier or something.... will someone who has actually done this mod chime in here and shed some light on this?

Have HIDs and they work well.........too well!

My neighbor is a Traffic Cop and gave me a subtle hint to take them off.

He is a hell of a nice guy and as I have stopped braving the wildlife at night I got rid of them.

No troubles with burnt wiring that others have experienced, just really white clear vision on the road.

I'm running to high beam housings as well. Didn't feel like dropping the cash for the HID set up yet. My low beam housing was cooked a bit and the whole "spoon" piece that blocks have the light really didn't make sense to me. I replaced it with a high beam housing and a couple hyper white bulbs and it's a much noticable difference. Few said I'd blind on comers but I've yet to have anyone flash their lights. I've been running it this way for about 8 months.

And Midknyte is exactly right...the housings are shaped differently. Low beam is more of an oval to where the high beam is a perfect circle.
