Thanks to this site, I was able to adjust my clutch perfect. However even before the adjustment I noticed that I have a lot of up/down play in the clutch lever. I did leave about 1/8th of slack between the clutch lever. Is the up down play normal? I'd say the play is about 3/8th

Buell clutches are pretty sloppy. That's normal.

What do you mean by up down play?

Lets see if I can explain it better. I can move the clutch lever up/down almost like the bolt holding the lever is loose but its not. It seems like I could put a thicker washer in there and still have 1/8th of play.

mine has the same play you are talkin' bout. perpendicular to the lever movement. i think it is from asphalt customization, or perhaps parking difficulties. i wonder if the ones from factory have the same play... pr'olly not

My bike w/7K on her has the same play, always has. Don't like it, and have thought about making a soda bottle shim for it (ask Ninja 250 guys....) but it does not really bother me all that much.

This ranks right up there with the fan as one of the most annoying Buell traits.

Just took mine apart to try to straighten the lever (from a fall over a couple of weeks ago). Noticed that there is a bushing that the bolt travels through, it is worn through on mine. That would create more up-down movement.

The bushing doesn't seem to show up in the parts book so it must be part of the original lever.

Can someone confirm this?

Maybe I'll just order the whole piece seeing as I don't think I really straightened it.
