Found out my appointment has been postponed due to back ordered parts. As many of you may be aware, the little spring keeper which keeps the clutch cable from melting on the exhaust has been dramatically changed. Also, because so many of them have broken and the cables melted as a result the parts are on back order.

I had the same problem. Broken wireform = melted cable. The parts were backordered, but have your dealer do a search. They may be able to get one from another dealer.

Artic,
I used a zip tie to keep the cable off the exhaust. It lasted for a month while I waited on parts.

That works george, thanx. I drop it off on Sunday. If the parts aren't in I am leaving it at the dealer until it is fixed. Hitting the road for work next week anyway, so no lose for me.

Just an update, fyi. I dropped off my XB12R at a dealer near me on Sunday. It has already been 3 weeks since I originally placed the call for warranty service. Of course this week we are having horrendous weather conditions here in Fl and I won't hold that against them. On the other hand, I do not expect to see my bike for at least another week and the service rep did tell me he would do a dealer search for the part but.......they won't part with it if there is a large back order. IMHO this should have been a recall in the first place. A melted clutch cable can cause the inner cable to stick upon shifting. If it were to engage late. As they say in the manuals, ....could result in serious injury or death.

I took my Uly in for service 2 weeks ago and mentioned a very slight oil weep at the clutch cable where it screws in the primary. They ordered new cable and keeper, got them in and installed them a week later (i.e.- last week). Maybe the Firebolt clutch cable is on backorder, but I'd think the keepers are the same for all the XB's.

The new clutch cable keeper was put on my bike Saturday the 16th by my dealer. My bike was in for a rear tire replacement and they changed the keeper too without me asking.

Day 9. Cable still b/o
Meanwhile, I completed my 10K service on my Harley this weekend, which I had planned to sell. New tires, brakes, etc.

I am beginning to think......sell the Buell keep the NightTrain.....It even gets better mileage. I bought the Buell as a second bike specifically for commuting with the intention of excellent MPG and Handling.

Paint- I'll be in Gainesville tomorrow for a service. I'm riding down so I'll be waiting there (appt is at 3). Looks like we just missed each other. I'm using them because of the good things I've heard here.
