I downloaded it and am waiting for a cable, so I haven't used. I run the race kit, but have been told, correct me if I'm wrong, that a standard ecm can be programmed to give you the same benefits as the race ecm.

You don't need to have the race ecm to have problems that are helped via a TPS reset. ECMspy does resets.

The race ECM is just a standard ECM with the race setup flashed on it -- so using ECMspy to upload the race setup to a standard ECM is the way to go. This only goes up to the '07 XBs of course -- the '08 and '09 bikes have a new ECM that doesn't like ECMspy (this will change hopefully).

Cheers!

Someone else may be able to confirm this, but I thought that I heard you CAN'T simply upload a race ECM setup to a standard stock ECM module. Something about the data locations being different or something like that...??

By the way - YES - definitely get a copy of ECM Spy regardless of whether you have a race ECM or stock. It's a great troubleshooting tool, if nothing else.

I found a problem with my engine temp sensor by using ECM Spy. That same issue would have probably required a few days at the dealer if I hadn't found it with ECM Spy. It took me all of one hour to fix it.

Hopefully the Spy is as easy for me as everyone has let on. I'm gonna attempt a flash my stock with the race and hopefully make $175 for the race ecm on Ebay.

Problem is, anybody who knows jack about them will be looking for "FOR RACE USE ONLY" on the ecm.

"I found a problem with my engine temp sensor by using ECM Spy."

Having a TPS done by your dealer will find the same issue. Did for me last year.

You cannot just load "Race ECM" data onto any ecm it has to have matching numbers. You can however tune your existing ecm to pretty much operate as a race ecm, or better. Search this website there are individuals who can help you, or do it for you if you pay them.

So you'd need to borrow a race ecm or know the data on it before trying to program the new one. Its not as easy as it may appear.

There's no button to push in ECMspy that says..."Push here for Race ECM Data"

Yes, but you have to PAY THE DEALER for a TPS reset. ECM Spy is FREE and you can do all the TPS resets you want, free of charge.

Just to be clear... ECMSpy is not something that you "put in" or "on" an ecm. It is a software tool that you download to your pc or pda that allows you to adjust the settings/mappings/etc that are stored in your ecm.

If you are not completely certain of what you are doing... DO NOT adjust any of the maps. If you do it wrong, you can destroy your motor.
It is WELL worth it for TPS resets, and trouble shooting. But for the love of all that is buell, don't get in there and start changing numbers unless you are completely certain of what those changes are doing.}

Ez, the only reason I brought that up was so that people who don't know what ECMspy can do or don't want to download it, will realize that your dealer will find such problems if they take their bike in for a TPS.

I agree that the free part is kickass, but for some, they'd rather have a dealer do it.

Don't forget to download the existing settings in you stock ecm and burn a cd with the info so you can always go back to stock, once you backup your stock ecm you can reprogram the same(factory) ecm, if you run into trouble you can go back to stock form. You can also reset you tps with the same program.

I can not emphasize enough how important this is. If you start making changes, and something goes wrong (like it most likely will), if you don't know where you started you probably will not be able to get back.
Buying a second ECM to use as a "tuner" would not be a bad idea either.

barnyard, find someone with 'spy and race map. have them copy the cells and email the map to you. then you put it in your stock ecm. dont forget to reset the tps when you do this, and each other time you perform some sort of mod.

you probably don't need a second ecm. just make sure you save the stock map in an excell file or something so you dont lose it when you put the race data in.

That would be called high way robbery. aka thieving, stealing, kicking it where it hurts, taking from the poor and giving to the rich... ect..

As far as I am aware of, you can upload a race ecm to a stock ecm, just upload the map for the appropriate year bike, not the eeprom. I've read quite a few people have done this and it works perfectly fine.

Oh, and please for the love of God, back up your stock eeprom as soon as you get EcmSpy working. Burn it to cd's disks, flash drives, everything.

Oh, and one other thing, for you morons that actually go to the dealership for a tps reset. Well, you're morons. One less person blowing money on a TPS reset that can easily be done on your own, is well, just that. LOL If you think you're cheating HD/Buell, what do you call it when you change your own oil, spark plugs, tires, and any other maintenance you do yourself?

Where can you download ecmspy? Should I have done a TPS reset when taking the techlusions module off my bike? If someone buys me a cable, i'll send you a cd with the race ecm data on it.

Just to be clear, I wasn't suggesting uploading a race ECM as a solution -- using ECMspy to make a custom map that is optimized for you bike is a much better option. However, if you happen to get your hands on a Buell Race Pipe (which is no longer sold) and want to match that to the race ECM they sold as part of their race kit (no longer sold either) so you can have a Buell with the full "Race Kit" on it then ECMspy is also the way to go. As far as stealing, since they no longer offer the product for sale I would offer that you are not depriving Buell of sales and as such are not stealing -- call it making your own bread after the bakery down the street closed down by using one of their recipes...

+1 on xoptiinside.com as well.

Cheers!

EPA regs aside,

I don't believe using ecmspy to change/replicate fuel info is any different than changing/adjusting a carb...
