I have an '08 XB12Ss on order for delivery early May. The comments about problems with the '08s seem to have increased during the past month or so to the point where I'm considering asking the dealer to shift my deposit to an '09 and pass on the '08. Are there '08 owners who have put on serious mileage with no or few problems or are the majority of '08s having problems? I live about 250 miles from the nearest dealer. I can live another summer without a Buell but I don't want to live a summer with a problem bike. I'd greatly appreciate good advice on the '08s. |

I dont have many miles on mine, but I also have had no problems including a 4 hour ride from ME to VT. The only "issue" with the bike is the "misfire" when the bike is still cold at low rpm when reving it up. I usually let the bike warm up and give it a few revs and it goes away. I think it has something to do with the self cleaning spark plug design. |

Thanks, Shaun. Is there an alternative plug that lessens that problem? |

No problems w/my '08 either, but don't have many miles, yet. FWIW, I could have gotten an '07, probably at a lower price, but wanted the features the '08. Some time in the recent past, another board member posted a comment to the effect that using this forum to gauge the reliability of Buells is somewhat like sitting in a doctors office to determine the medical health of a city. You should, of course, do what you feel comfortable with. |

2008 city x. 2000 miles. ride it everyday, runs great. The only problem i have encountered was a loose muffle strap causing a mild vibration. 10 minutes later it was fixed. Having owned many bikes over the years, and this being my first Buell... I love it! Sure sometimes it hiccups, but it never stalls or fails to start. When a V-twin hiccups you feel it, when a 4 cylinder hiccups you don't. Give the thing 2-3 minutes to warm up while your putting your gear on and then ride "easy" for the first few minutes and you'll be fine. Hope this helps Rich |

you might have a water cooled S to choose from in the 09 model year. |

My answer is get the 2008 If you wait for a 2009, you wont have a buell to ride during the best riding months of the year My 2006 has that misfire as well. I consider it one of it's many character traits. Hell, I am the same way before coffee in the morning. |

On the warm up. I let mine idle until I feel heat in the valve cover, never touching the throttle until it's warm. Never had a hiccup in either of mine. Ok, on the 2k8 or 2k9. Really depends on how much patients you have. If you can wait till 2k9 OK, If not the 2k8s are great bikes. That said, I'd go for the best price. You really won't be dissatisfied with either. Buells seem to be cool no matter what year you have. From the first Tubers to the 2003 XB and newer, it's always going to be a Buell. |

Ummmm, or you could just get an '06-'07 and skip the waiting or possible/potential/theoretical problems. Only being partly serious -- +1 on the warm-up and easy riding to start, even helps my friend's SV1000S metric v-twin. |
