anyone ever had their xb pop into neutral after giving the beans to first gear and letting off? Recently in my spring cycle of warming the bike up and getting out for a good 10-20 mile run, when I came back to the house and decided she wanted to play. I proceded to come almost to a stop around the corner and get a good bite on first, I didnt bounce the rev limiter or anything, maybe only even to 5 k? but anyways after a nice wheelie I let off, and the bike coasted into neutral without a click or grind or clutch/shifter operation from my feet/hands. The only other problem I've ever even thought I had with it was me being between neutral and first gear at a light once for about 2-3 seconds and it clacked pretty hard and you could hear a nice grind. I'm not really worried as my old 05 sporty had the same characteristics as this, and an old tractor. I just adjusted to primary and clutch and lubed EVERYTHING in the bike/garage, so I'm thinking/hoping that the jolt of my hamfisted wheelie coming down to the ground popped it that half click into neutral cause it's so perfectly lubed and adjusted now. it is very smooth now with no hint of trouble except this one time.  | ||

Yep, happens on my 03 9s and my 04 12s if I don't "persuade" it enough with my foot. It'll feel like it's in gear but it's not quite, heavy throttle pop the clutch and whamo, neutral. Scary as hell when there is a big truck riding you tail.  | ||

My XB12R '04 does the same thing. I took it in and had my clutch inspected just to make sure, since mine has done it a few times to me in the last month, and nothing. Just not being aggressive enough with the shifting. | ||

"If it don't clunk, your shift was junk." That's classic Jeremy; way better than the old, "Shift it like you mean it." I haven't experienced any issues with mine jumping out of gear, but have noticed on rare occasions when I don't ATGATT I'll miss 2nd once in a while when I wear my Nikes. | ||

thanks fellas for the input. I'm pretty convinced there were other factors in this than what I had going on in my head (complete tranmission failure). The advice on shifting was well put, but my action took place when there was no shifting going on. I just let off the throttle and it popped into neutral after coming back down on the front tire. downshifts as well as upshifts must be done in a "manly" fashion . | ||
