besides the ully, is there any 2008 xbS models that is preferable for long trips?... i guess riding two up is pretty much out of the question, due to lack of a rear seat..

I believe that is what the XB12SS is designed for. it's stretched out for a more stable ride at highway speeds, more fuel capacity, and a longer seat to fit a passenger or luggage.

You can swap a SS seat and rear pegs onto a TT, in fact most of the dealers have been doing that to get them to sell. Otherwise the only difference is the ride height and rake (the TT has slightly less).

The only problem with a SS/Stt for the long haul is no wind protection at all. I plan to get a Cee-Baily shield next month for trip on the super-slab over a 100 miles one way but anything shorter I don't mind.

I don't think you'd want to ride 2-up on either one though as the XB12X/XT have different peg locations and larger seats.

The lack of hard bags OR anyplace to carry anything AT all is a major pain to me. I mean ANYTHING...I have to carry the ins card and reg in my pocket!

As far as power and gearing they are all the same and you can tune the shocks for a nice comfy ride on the road then tweak the turn and burn when you get there!

SS/STT are the same bike, biggest difference being the suspension. SS also has a few pieces that are a pewter color vs. black on the SS. SS and STT have the same tail section with different paint. I have the STT seat on my SS, and I like it so far. Other little differences between the SS and STT are little things like the handle bars, hand guards, front fender and headlight grill.

The SS isn't bad for long trips but as mentioned above the wind blast does get old after awhile. I did a 1000 mile weekend round trip last year on mine and was very comfortable as far as seat and seating position are concerned. You're right about 2 up riding though, my wife won't go more than 100 miles on the back seat before she starts getting uncomfortable.

I've done 700 mile weekends with my Ss. I have a Laminar Speed Shield on it which helps a LOT.

The 700 mile weekend is the annual Ramapo 500 which is two 250 mile days in upstate New York and New England. All back roads, no highways, with a camp out inbetween (hotel rooms available at extra cost). It's about 100 miles to the sign up point for me so that makes it a 700 mile weekend. Admission includes dinner and entertainment Saturday night, and breakfast Sunday morning.

By the way, if you live in the area and own a Buell, you owe it to yourself to do this ride! It's tailor made for Buells!
