Does anyone have an idea how much it will cost for the first 500 miles service?. My Lighting 12S is going in Monday and I would like to find out how much this will cost, average. Thanks......

My 1000 mile service on the Uly was $200 if I remember correctly. I did my own 500 miles service (checking fastners, changed the primary and engine oil).

I didn't have the VDSTS that I have now to reset the TPS, otherwise, I would have done the 1000 mile myself.

I know my dealer has the 1000 mile service priced on their typical service board. Did you ask your dealer the cost? They should know as they should have done plenty.

I recommend you buy the service manual and do it your self. Dealerships have an excellent track record of f'ing up even the simplest of things. It really is nothing more than a fluid change, cable check.

My 500 mile service cost $225 + tax and miscellany for a total of $248.

My '08 XB12Ss called for a first service or initial service at 1,000 miles.

With no additional work, the 12 items called for has a book rate of $365.00 plus tax at the dealer!

I could have done it all for less than $50.00 in about 2 hours, - but wanted warranty protection and an "expert eye" just in case I miss something when learning how to maintain a new bike.

All of the next ones I will do myself and change to Mobile 1 oil and filter.

Thank you everybody, they did it and everything was fine, the final bill was $239.00 including taxes. No complaint, but I could have done it for about $60.00 but I don't want to void the warranty.

They can't void your warranty just because you do your own service/repairs. Just keep records of mileage and date of work done. Keep all your receipts for oil and filters purchased.

Buy a service manual first! It will come in handy down the line even if you don't do your own service/repairs.

Congratulations on the new bike!
