has anyone tired these tires? on anything. darn right cheap. just hate to be on CHEAP tires. maybe i'll order some for my RM 250. if you have tired these, did you like them or not. thanks later, Aaron | ||

I was fortunate enough to receive some one the road assistance from Mountainrider when I skulled a Strada in Suches at 1800 miles. He strapped on a Tomahawk rear on my bike. I thought it did rather well. The wet traction isn't as good as other tires. I believe the compound they use has less silica than non-retreads. I also noticed that the compound took a little longer to warm up. I about climbed into the back of a Miata on Deals Gap after a rest break at Fontana Dam when the rear spooled up and broke loose. Once they are warm, they stick pretty well. The compound is softer than a touring tire but a little harder than a supersport tire. The tread pattern is fine. Nothing fancy. For what they cost, I think they are a pretty good bargain. Unless you are pushing your bike to the last 1% of traction, I don't think you will have any problems with them. Buy a set and try them out. Get used to them and see what you think. | ||

Tomahawks have low cost going for them, for sure. I am not sure that they even use the same manufacturer's carcasses from tire-to-tire. Haven't heard of any failures of the re-treads just reports of uncertain handling. Probably a ton of info here - it comes up once in a while and might be search-able. | ||

I like them. I get them on eBay from from user airtire (Desser Tire & Rubber.) $120 per set and the only drawback is some of them can be tough to balance. | ||

Why try to save $$ on tires that you may have little confidence in? Last thing I want to wonder when leaned over is "did I buy crap tires?" Diablos have yet to make me have any question. Ft_bstrd is pretty right on the mark. I personally would never use Tomahawks but totally understand somebody who might be interested in pennies-per-mile as the only consideration. ME? If I have to do a very long slab-run, I'd go with a harder compound, more rain-appropriate tire and just tip-toe around turns. For "playing" - the Diablo Corsa III are most awesome (based on the Inside Pass playtime on the 1125R) | ||

The Tomahawks lean over just fine -- they're not crap. There does, however, seem to be a whole lot of hype about how bad they are. If you happen to have multiple bikes w/multiple riders and you can easily burn through 20 sets of tires in 12 months,,,do the math. We'll burn up 2, and sometimes 3, sets in one weekend -- that's used fricking up too. | ||

I got my Tomahawk from Mountainrider and his people in Suches. 95% here couldn't outride them on the local roads there. If Tomahawks are good enough for them, they are probably good enough for most of us. I believe that they sponsor a couple racing teams. | ||

The Tomahawk's I've installed had a spot on the plastic sticker-label that stated what the core tire was. | ||

I didn't like mine at all. They were on the bike when I bought it, so I don't know how many miles they had. Horrible in wet weather, not that good in the twisties, and they looked terrible. The color fades in time. Every single person who saw my bike asked, "What's wrong with your tires?" I switched to the Corsa IIIs and couldn't believe the difference. Whole new bike. I've never tried a new set of Tomahawks before though, so judge my opinion accordingly. | ||

There are different compounds available. I don't believe the best, stickiest compound comes in colors. | ||
