Dear Gents,

as a noob owner (few days in possesion of 1125R : D) I am still discovering my new monstrous love.
Straight to the point - after start up when the LDC displays "ENGINE COLD" and a while after when the info disappears the tachometer niddle (hint) gently pulsates up' n'down between 1.5K and 2.0K RPM.
Is it normal? such uneven engine work? Thank you for backup. (sorry for english, non native)

Mine does a similar thing, but it's more like between 1250-1500. I thinks it's normal due to the design of the engine being a 2 cylinder v-twin.

I've also heard people say that after installing the EBR race ECM the bike sounds like its cammed, which if you've ever seen a cammed V8 the RPMs jump around at idle.

But don't tale my word for it. It's just a hypothesis.

It is normal for this model. It is because of very long duration valve timing. The intent was a trade off of low engine speed stability for high engine speed power. Live with it, just don't go so slow.

All above is correct. Having ridden with and without the EBR ECM I can tell you that for the most part that is correct. The bike will smooth out a little on the lower end with the ECM. Keep the rpms high while riding, otherwise you'll end up feeling like you're in a canoe on choppy water. I personally keep my bike above 3k rpm at all times, but I know others that stay above 4k. If you don't have an exhaust and EBR ECM I highly recommend it.

1. No apologies needed, I am sure your English is better than my Polish.
2. Welcome to the 1125 world.
3. Yes, at least for me, it is normal. The tachometer and idle varies a bit, Especially if I have not ridden for a while and the weather has changed. Over a short time should improve because it learns from running.

Always check the 1125 battery - full charge before starting!!

Leave the throttle alone, it will try to idle without you touching the throttle. It will teach itself what has changed and correct itself. If it stalls, let it stall. Turn off the switch and the key!!!. Never stop a Buell engine with the key, use the switch. Between major starting sequences turn the ignition key off (the head lights require too much battery energy). Allow the battery to rest for a minute or two.

Turn on the key, then the switch. Turn the switch (not the key) off, then on (wait for the fuel pump noise to stop) then off again. Repeat this 2 more times (key always on) then press the start button. That operation helps clear the cylinders with spark and allows the computer to try a bit different sequence. When it starts, do not touch the throttle, let it run or stall.

If it stalls, repeat the process, it will work. Always, before starting check that the battery is at maximum charge or it might fail during several starts. Take time to let the 1125 do what it must do. It may take a few minutes or be a number of miles riding. Giving the computer time to figure the run-setting has seemed to work for me. Once this is done the bike should run well but cold starts will almost always have a bit of roughness before fully warmed.

My 1125R starts and immediately settles to a steady rpm, I ride all year round, below freezing in winter to the moderate warmth of a UK summer and I do not believe the op's bike's behaviour is correct or acceptable, something is wrong.

Thank you all for the support! 1125R is having battery issues, I am aware of that.
Do you think taking her on a long 6000km ride through Europe is not the best idea? There might not be many occasions to charge the battery up during the two weeks escapade. I am not sure if I can trust her 100% : D I wouldn't be happy while left alone somewhere in the middle of EU: D
And what about high temps? Will 1125 survive the hot spanish summer sun while driving hard on the seaside twisties for example?

Being a "learning" injected bike the 1125 can handle most weather types without an issue. I wouldn't hesitate to take that ride. In fact it sounds awesome. The only thing I would like to mention is that the bike should probably get an oil change during that ride. I would be leery of putting more than 4000km on my oil between changes. I personally do about 2000 miles (3200 km) between mine, changing the filter and cleaning the screen every time. I would also look into a coolant flush and test the battery before I left.

Put a tender on it if you can, and plug it up overnight if you're staying somewhere. Keep an eye on the temps, a CT over 220F is starting to get hot. I live in a hot, humid area with temps into the 100's F regularly, and if I keep the bike moving it rarely goes over 180F. Sitting in traffic will produce 200-210F.

If that is the original battery (2008), you should replace it.

Harley Davidson battery for this bike is about $125USD.

Should be a pleasant trip

dzien dobry panu and welcome to Badweb. Jak sie masz?

I'm surprised I remember that much Polsku, i only studied it for a few weeks.

Enjoy that 1125. It's a blast (you know what I mean).

The 1125 does get hot during hot weather, but i don't think I've ever heard of one overheating. The frame will feel hot to the touch but the engine should have no problems whatsoever.

The battery will(should) stay charged as long as the engine is running. If you have any doubts about it starting after sitting for a night or two, I would definitely replace it.

The 2008s did not have issues with the charging system, so I'd suspect an outdated battery.

Quiet good Polish : )
battery is new - bought it few days ago at Harley's. Something is wrong.. HD did recalls, ECM was updated, battery has been changed. When i bought her there was a check engine lamp on. After recalls all errors has been erased and check engine dissapeared.
I got her from HD today and went for a short ride.. Unfortunatelly something is really bad. When I reach RPM around 6-7K (does't matter which gear) I have a feeling there is a power loss and the engine behaves like Harley's bikes does when you reach RPM redline. Kinda power cut off.. After few trys getting her on higher RPMs, check engine lamp showed up again. I am worried for her. I will take her to HD on monday again. Is it bad? What do you think? Thanks for the helpfull backup.

TPS reset should be done.

Harley techs may not be knowledgeable with a TPS reset.

Bartosz, if you can get your hands on an FSM (Field Service Manual), that would help you understand what to troubleshoot.

Here are the top 4 reasons why the 1125r engine runs rough at idle (per the FSM)
o Valve clearance below specification
o Intake air leak
o Malfunctioning ignition unit or incorrect ignition timing
o Valve or valve guides worn or imperfect valve seat

The FSM, in table 3.15 on page 3-9 states other causes for poor idle quality. Here they are
o Loose spark plugs
o Incorrect or worn spark plugs
o Fouled or wet spark plugs
o Discharged battery, cranking rpm too low
o Inadequate fuel supply
o Improper valve clearance
o Incorrect valve timing
o Inoperative or damaged ignition coil(s)
o Inoperative or damaged crankshaft position sensor or ECU
o Leaking cylinder head gasket(s)

How many miles do you have on your 1125r?

If it has over 20,000 kilometers, has it ever has the valve lash checked? If yes, it may be possible that the valve timing is off due to improper camshaft and timing chain alignment when the technician was putting everything back together on the engine.

Because you said you are having issues when the engine rpm's increase to 7,000 and more, it almost sounds as if you are having fueling problems. There have been several 1125r owners here that have had fuel pump issues.

Another thought is you may have an intake seal leak.

Injectors have O-rings. O-rings degrade over time, leading to intake air leaks.

Or, it could be something as simple as worn out spark plugs.

By the way, my wife is Polish

Mine has 21.000km done. I am the second owner - Iam not sure if the valves were ever checked.
Thank for the potential issues list - I will deliver it to HD guys to have a look at it! Greetings for the wife!: )

Hello there Ciemny02 I have relatives that live in Lodz. I was wondering if you would be interested in a possible trade of some motorcycle T shirts? I would love to have a few that are from Polish Motorcycle shops , along with some signs or posters. In exchange I can send you some American ones? or cash?
Thanks!

Hi Pgh,

I am not a fan of T-Shirts really : ). I do not have any motorcycle T-shirts. However I would like to have a original "Buell" T-shirt. We could arreang something. I do not know what are you looking for. Do you want me to check the shoops and look for something particular for you? I don't have any posters either.
