I am doing the stator and regulator upgrade. I removed the harness upgrade.

What does this light grey plug go to?

Going from memory, that's probably the wire from the ECM to control the relay. If so, tape & stow it.

Sparky, you hit the nail on the head.

Blacknightrain, it was used by the stock ECM to activate the relay to open and close one leg of the stator, supposedly to lower the heat in the stator, but in effect actually making the other two legs work harder to maintain voltage, causing it to burn out.

It's been a little while since I researched it, but I'm fairly confident that is how it works.
