I was wondering if anyone had investigated putting a turbo on? Would love to try this some day and was wondering if anyone with the experience with this motor could tell me how intense a project like this would be. Definately not something I could completey do on my own. Is it even possible or am I asking for trouble? |

Interesting idea. I don't know my self but I would imagine that you would need to change the belt in for a chain drive set up. I don't think the belt would able to hang with the blast of torque a turbo would produce. I would definitely like to see it done though! |

Been thinking a lot about it. Heat management is going to be a mofo which is why I've not pursued the idea. Realistically you're looking at lower compression pistons, flowing the heads, the turbo itself, plumbing, intercooler and tuning. In all honesty if you're paying to have it done expcect to spend well over $10k if you can do the work prolly north of $5k but less than $10k. I'd love to see it done however it's really not that practical a machine for a turbo setup. |

You'd probably want to look at extending the swingarm as well... As short of a wheelbase as the bike has, you'd probably be pulling the wheel in every gear once the boost comes on. |

Not seeing any intake piping or air filter... Looks to me like it's just exhaust. Probably done to keep the NOx bottle from getting showered with exhaust heat. |

Id say if you could get the turbo to boost only in 3rd,4th,5th it might be worth it |

sure you can. just have to have a boost controller setup to those gear ranges or a manually switched waste gate. |

You don't need to spend a lot of money flowing the heads on a turbo beast, 'specially when they are as good stock as the 1125 heads are. Same with cams. You don't want a whole lot of overlap or you get too much blowdown. You do need good boost and timing control. |

sadly without taking them and getting them measured we won't know what the cam timing is for the stock cams or the RR cams that are available. you are technically correct on not needing much as the heads do breath well. figure if you're going to do it you may as well and do it all. seriously doubt that without a very conservative amount of boost and or some serious throttle control that the belt will last long. |

I remember the older XB's had a vertical hole in the left side of the frame? made me think a boost pipe for a 1200XB could slip in there |

Danny, What if I told you the reason that hole was there was for that exact reason? The XB was originally designed to be turbocharged from the factory. |

yes they did. by the time the 1125 showed up the tube was gone. with the right sealing and a few strength building additions the existing tract would work fine |

A degree wheel, TDC stop and a good dial gauge will tell the tale of the camshafts. I believe that the cams have been measured by someone in europe and every time a race motor is assembled in East Troy . |

Notpurples2 ~ a factory turbo XB12R with a Baker 6 speed would have been the S^%$! Imagine how the gas would boil on one of those! |

I'd love for someone to do this, a turbod 1125 would be awesome. One day maybe.... |

I did see a compresssed gas bottle on the right of the bike. I also see an air shifter on the left. Dual purpose?? |

no no no, look again at the fourth picture, look for the white bottle that says NX on it, not the Pingel bottle. |

No sweat buddy, its sort of hid in there and only shown in one picture (though there was another picture from the rear 1/4 of the bike which shows the mounting hole in the swingarm and a braided line). Im still not buying the turbo part, nothing in there looks like a turbo. |

I never saw buttons in a motorcycle application. If the cam sprocket bolts to the cam, you slot the sprocket holes. Then you can play with lobe centers to your heart's delight. |

the way this valve train goes together honestly there is a lot of room for error. the chain sprocket has slotted holes already. the cam gears do not, just a hole with a drive pin. the cams have two key ways 180deg apart. i'd like to think(lol) that the key ways and gears are precise(lmao) and the adjustment should/would be done on the chain gear that already has slots. however.... if the cams are off and/or the gears themselves are off then you'd need to slot the gears. problem i see with that is the cam gear is held on with 1 bolt through the center so keeping that alignment while torquing that bolt would be a challenge. |

Old pic--no turbo. Have not seen one yet.hanging turbo etc is easy----it is fueling under boost that is stumbling block. |

Aerocharger made one for the Spyder, the max is 6 lbs boost, one of the owners is on his 3rd engine, the belt, front pulley and spline shaft are questionable, the rear pulley seems to be okay. I think he blew the first at the Salt Flats. It was tried on a Suzuki SV1K, too. They really work the Vtwin engine hard, the SV650 can breaks the crank around 79hp if I remember right from tuning alone, so that one is out. |

Custom two piece cam sprockets. the center keys to the cam and the outer allows adjustment. I saw that in a top secret motor that normally had pressed on sprockets when I was the only one in the pits that brought my cam degreeing gear to a national. I'll bet a good machinist could take two sets of gears and make a set. |
