I was doing some checking of a few things on the Erik Buell Racing Race ECU while connected to ecm Spy and I noticed on the ECM-Config Tab there is a open loop learn enable config box that is unchecked. Can changing this box enable the open loop sensors read and change to conditions? Anyone familiar with this? There is also a fuel cutoff in decel box, will that bring back the engine braking the way it is under the stock ECU?

I think you would be better off emailing info@ebracing.com instead, that way in case Micheal isn't around your email doesn't go unanswered.

Also, provide as many details in the email as you can, including order number, year and model bike, VIN (never know), and contact information.

(From Erik Buell Racing)

Although there may be small tweaks you would like to make, we strongly discourage users to modify our ECM settings with third party tools. There is a lot we do to get as much as possible without hurting other areas.

For example, the first strategy you are asking about is what we call “open loop learn”. This is a protection/safety we built in. We know that the heavy throttle portions of the map out side of the emissions range need to be calibrated rich of stoic to make best power and keep the engine cool, so these portions of the map run open loop. However we also know if the O2 was active is should always read rich as this is how the calibration is set up if the O2 ever sees consistent lean readings it means something has gone wrong and it adds fuel to help prevent you from burning down your engine. So checking the box will be an issue, and no, it is not going to do what you want it to do.

The decel fuel cut is something that can really screw up how a bike runs. There is a bit to enable/disable this, but there are also tables to calibrate how much fuel it cuts and under what conditions (it is not an all or nothing). We can reset your idle lower if you want more engine braking.

There are no quick solutions that don't cause more problems than they fix. We deal with a lot of this, and if you really want to create your own map, then you should get the programmable ECM and learn what all the parameters do. Or you can just ride it as is and have fun...

Thank you,
Tech Support
