will the m3hus062 be better on my 08 1125r, they said they would reflash it when they fix the dreaded leaking clutch. I have the 03z flash right now

The general consensus is that the newer flashes improve everything. Power, rideablility, fuel economy, and other minor issues. I say go for it, my 08 run fantastic.

It will definitely be better ... You'll like it!! Okay, I guess I can't personally guarantee you will like it, but I've yet to see anyone that didn't ; )

Are the flash upgrades something that has to be done by the dealer, or can they be done by anyone with a data cable and ECM spy? I ask because my closest dealer is about an hour and a half away and I'd like to save trips there for stuff that absolutely HAS to be done at the dealer.

I haven't actually confirmed if it is or not, but when I bought it in the end of October they promised me it was the latest flash. Either way, it runs better than my 09 CR which I bought in August, so I so believe that it is the right one.

Jack, thanks for the PM. You said that the flash can be done with the cable and software. But the question is, where do you get the flash from? I haven't seen anyone post the flashes available for download.

Is it really that difficult to get to the dealer????

Also i highly doubt Buell or any dealer has that flash just available for you to do your own work.. maybe someone could get it for you, but i doubt it.

The flash has to be done by the dealer.

I've had the 03z, the 05z and the 062 on my bike. The o3z was slow, the o5z had better top end and was a little lean (stumbles somewhat) on the low end. The 062 has improved top end, better midrange and the low end is still a teeny bit lean...btw, the only nonstock item is a K&N filter. Hope this helps...

Justa4banger, yeah, it is a bit of an inconvenience. To get the bike there, I'd have to borrow a trailer from a friend. Figure 15 minutes to pick up the trailer and 15 minutes to drop it off. Another 10 minutes to get the bike securely loaded on the trailer (I prefer to be thorough) and then an hour and a half there and back, so a total of about 3 hours and 40 minutes. That's not including whatever time I spend there. Then, assuming that they can't work on the bike while I wait, that time would be effectively doubled by a return trip.

So yeah, if I could save 7 hours by doing the flash myself, hell yes I would!

Is it possible for someone to save their firmware off of their bike and send it to someone else? If so, maybe we could get a bunch of people to save their bikes' firmwares and save them in a central location for everyone to download.

BTW I have a data cable and ECM Spy, but I haven't had a chance to install the software or hook the cable up to the bike yet, so I have no idea what kind of information the software can retrieve from the ECM.

My understanding is that ECMspy cannot read the entire EEPROM, so it would not work. Ft_bstrd was investigating a solution that involved mailing a ECM and having it reflashed in house at his dealer, I don't know if that works or not.

Also, according to your profile you are in Carbondale, Il. If that is true, Dale's HD is about an hour drive north of you.

Hey Froggy, yes I am in Carbondale and Dale's is the closest dealer. Dales is about 60 miles from me (20 miles from the far side of Carbondale to I57, and then another 40 miles north to Mt. Vernon, and then however many miles from I57 to Dale's) and given the stoplights and having to drive slower because of towing a trailer, I estimate it would take me about an hour and a half to cover that distance. I might be able to knock it down to an hour and 15 if traffic is cooperative.

I wouldn't mind removing the ECM and mailing it off for a flash if something like that could be accomplished.

It does sound like a pain ... But anything having to do with improving the bike usually falls into the 'I actually enjoy this' category. And once you ride it with the latest-and-greatest ECM flash, you'll be glad you did it.

I would love to get the new flash on my 08. Only problem is I am on pain meds that prevent me from driving much less riding. I'm at the mercy of my fiance on where we go. Save me!!!!

Justa4banger, I wouldn't mind making a trip to the dealer if I had plenty of spare time, but I've got an 8-month-old at home and he's pretty time-consuming. Back when I was single or didn't have a kid, making the drive would have been no big deal. Now, not so much. Not that I'm complaining--priorities have just changed.

The bike has to be with the ECM to do the flash and has to be done on the DT at the dealer. Rocket if you have any problems with Dales, I work at Legacy in Effingham and can get you taken care of and the flash does seem the perform better all over.

I had my 09 R reflashed by the dealer; 'temporarily' because I have the stock exhaust and intake back on while the new custom muffler is off to Jet-Hot; then it will be back to the custom fuel maps.

This flash is called M3HAU142 (in the States I expect it would be M3HUS142. Haven't seen this number before; is it really the most current?

Red, that probably is the most current one, as the same code but with US is the most current in the states. The US sounds like a region code. There probably is half a dozen variants for various emission requirements around the globe.
