Ya' know, it's just my opinion, but if I were in a situation like Eric Buell, it would feel like a real slap in the face for Harley to as him to join back up with them after they see him doing well on his own. I really lost a lot of respect for the Harley Davidson company because of the way that they had no problem cutting loose the entire Buell line, when times are tight, when they should have become more creative and aggressive with their marketing, and if any bikes should have gone it should have been the v-rod line, those don't sell at all. And the company wouldn't be in this position in the first place had they not pushed and later forced the dealers to build the big ass super-showrooms. If Harley Davidson would have stuck to their founding principles and had some integrity about them instead of allowing themselves to become enslaved by money and greed, then we would not even be having this conversation right now!!!! And that goes for a lot of other businesses in this country, that's why our financial status, as a nation, is the way it is right now!

Oh yeah, and I almost fell out of my chair with laughter after reading that very first ad! Are the corporate big wigs over there so f-ing stupid, wait, what am I saying, they did just shut down Buell. Which I guess means that ad is about par for the course.

SCREW HD! LET'S RIDE!

The day I rode away from my local HD dealer on my new XB was the only good experience I had with them. The several occasions I visited the dealer after that, were something else. Maybe if I was treated like a customer instead of an annoying hang-around, I would have done more business. I have a hunch this feeling of alienation is what kept me from spending more money with the motor co. Thank God for Al and Joanne. If HD would have catered to me like they do the "cruiser" set, they could have got a piece of the business that I gave others like American Sport Bike, thus resulting in a better financial outcome with Buell. I hope the lesson was learned, and in the future they don't make mistakes that end up killing a company and shunning a whole generation of future customers

UhraOO, let me tell you something about the dealerships here in Fort Lauderdale: They treated my old man and I like we were inconveniencing them when we tried to buy my brand new xb12 there, and he bought a brand new street glide there just 2 years ago. There was only 2 dealers in the state who had the bike I wanted, and because of the way that we were treated we drove 5 hours one way to get my bike. With the $100 it cost in gas we still saved $400. My old man's brother was down here visiting just a few months ago, and was in the market to buy his first harley, and the sales man was a complete douche nozel. My experience at the Rossmeyer dealerships is horrendous, thankfuly I work in aftermarket harley parts(for 6 years now)and have very few reasons to go to the dealership. You are not alone in your frustrations. My best experience with the dealerships here is when the salespeople accosted me after I already bought my bike and were acting desperate to sell me the one they still have on the floor, and I told them to piss off, I got a bike already!!!

Second that on the horrendous Rossmeyer HD stealership. Crappy Buell service and over the top pressure sales techniques sent me further South to get my Harley. Now I'm selling the Harley and keeping the Buell.

Kaput- can I be so forward as to assume by your post that you live in the greater Ft Laud area?

And as far as Rossmeyer's dealerships, I try not to go there except for the free coffee, warrantee work, the occasional really good clearance rack deal, and to pick on the salesmen- I especially loath Corky at Sunrise he is a total douche nozel!! I give him hell everytime i see him, and he doesn't get it that I don't like him, even though I have told him "I don't like you, go away!"

All that being said, you should come for a ride when we all get together next time.

Is it possible in Harleys shortsightedness that it didnt think they could gain any new "good" engineering from Buell for their "core" product line. Especially since Erik was now concentrating on a bike with an "outsourced" powerplant? Wishful thinking would be that maybe Harley would pair MV and Buell in their own showrooms....like i said... wishful.
Just a thought that I havent seen posted. Neal

Neal, I believe that perhaps you just found TDC. Without question Buell has pushed the HD VTwin past its limits and had to seek out another power plant for the machines to progress into the future. Unfortunately for Buell they had to go with the same option that others have turned to, rotax. So when you have had the fuel in frame/ oil in the swing arm for years with nothing else big on the drawing board and are using the same engines others are using, as a company, you hit the wall. Those of us that are fans would have loved to see Buells being sold by motorcyclist, not buy clueless t-shirt salesman, named stinky or greasy. Also I believe that HD could have held my attention by putting the rotax into the uly, however that is not the hd way of business. HD has always used the simplest form of design. Meaning if they could take the front tire from a “fat boy” and the fender from a sportster, slap them on an 1125 and call it the shit rod, Buell would still be in business. As I said in other posts, Eric Buell is a great engineer and artist. Maybe the only one HD has had on the payroll since the founders, but also maybe his limits with HD have been reached. And as I have also said Eric Buell is a racer that has never had an opportunity to fully develop his dream. So I believe all that is left is to say is goodbye to an innovative, and truly fun motorcycle brand and hope Eric’s ideas trickle down into other brands. Motorcyclist boycotted HD dealers in the sixties and seventies for treating us like dirt, ignoring the customer, for old technology, lack of design and not having a support network. It is time for HD to change or go away. Tell everybody that will listen not to shop at HD.
