Jl

Basically, compared to the XB version, the XL version has more restrictive intake/exhaust systems and I believe milder cams/timing & heavier flywheel so it revs slower.

The main rationale is that HD is all about the "look".

The XL has to "look" right, not "work" right. Thus the small mufflers and the "ham can" intake design.

The other factor is that the engine in that bike will spend 99% of its life below 4,000 rpm so the performance is tuned with that in mind.

Buells prior to the XB all about "working" right, which caused them not to "look" right in the eyes of most bikers. Thus the HUGE muffler and side mounted airbox on the tubers.

The XB's have managed to hide/make these features look better, but they still have a HUGE muffler and the HUGE overhead airbox. They also tend to be ridden above 4000 rpm most of the time so the performance is tuned with that in mind.

hope that helps

25 page virtual MCN magazine available at: http://www.zinio.com/express?issue=100814487

I note a small item in one of the sidebars:
"Los Angeles has stacked the odds against bikers in its latest municipal code. Under new rules, if you're busted for wheelies or racing - or even if a 'peace officer' reasonably suspects you of breaking the law, your bike can be seized. The moment you pop a wheelie or race, you no longer own your bike - the city of LA does."

As California goes, so eventually goes the country.

Nuts.

Wish I was home to check out one of the Uly's in person. I was talking to the wife last night over the phone and told her I want one. She laughed and said I could get one if I could keep the payments the same as my 12R. Of course that would mean trading the 12R in. The last time she said something like that I got my 12R and got rid of my Blast. : ) Got a long way to go before I can see about getting a new bike. I won't be home until early next year. Maybe things will work out. : )

Send him Fuell issues... I know he's fiending! He's the one that showed me around this site...

Ebear,

I hope Don's experience was better than mine at Quaid. I still have a sour taste in my mouth from last year. Was talking about my wife's beautiful battle blue Buell and they said, Oh, the one that's not a HARLEY!" I vowed I'd never go back. Hopefully they've come around!

Tell you what, ya'll send me a Ulysses over here and that'll do it. : ) I've been here since the middle of Feb and I'll be here for at least another 6 months. We get a lot of stuff in, but the thing we go through really quick is coffee, beef jerky, and yes sour candy. I also need the last 4 episode of Season 4, "24". : ) (Seriously) Oh yeah, Crystal Light Lemonade, or the Wal-Mart brand of Crystal Light Lemonade. My wife sends me my Fuell magazines. : ) If anyone would like to send any DVD's with oh, anything regarding motorcycles, I'd be glad to accept that and share that with the Marines, Sailors, Soldiers, and Airmen I work with. On behalf of everyone out here, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT.

Thanks Jerry, I corrected it. I was given the address that was listed, but you were correct, it should have been as it is now. It really didn't matter though, I was still getting the mail because of the ZIP. : ) Thanks for the catch.

I need help. the upper header bolt broke on my 2000 x1. I am taking it to the machine shop to get fixed. I cant get my hands on a book and the Harley shop here wont help me any. I need to know if someone has the torque specs for the head bolts.
