Peter-
Darn, and I wanted to come down and see that. Actually we had a family from Brisbane come stay for a summer a few years ago. I think they knew more about the States than an awful lot of Americans.
We've talked about coming back to visit them but never made the decision.

What??? No roo-riding??? Say it ain't so!

How many times have I said that I would like to own a GS!!! My test results...

A real man's bike!: ]

Not so sure about the apathy wrt road-racing though. It has been almost two years since I raced, but more so out of laziness than lack of desire.

And if it were the GS, my favorite bike would be the 1200, not the 1150 model.

Must've been the skydiving question that got me, and it's legal to lane split out here, why wouldn't I go to the front anyway? I don't it knows me very well.......

600cc Sportbike
You scored 6 moxie, 5 zeal, and 1 pomp!
You are a squid. Your bike is a 600cc Japanese Sportbike. Take your pick, it really doesn't matter, since you're going to wad it.
You are the primary source of extra bits of fairing plastic on eBay.

When you're riding in the mountains, you have a hard time keeping up with that Olde Pharte on a Triumph Thruxton without blowing the centerline in the twisties and going WFO on every straight. (You're not a bad rider, but you're just not as good as you think you are.)

On a hot day, you're likely to be seen weaving through highway traffic at warp speed, wearing sneakers and a t-shirt blowing up your back.

The good news for you is that this is a temporary phase in your riding career. You will either (a) buzzsplat or (b) become more acutely conscious of your own mortality after a few minor but eye-openingly lucky crashes.

Take it to the track. You'll live longer.

My test tracked 3 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender:

You scored higher than 70% on moxie
You scored higher than 47% on zeal
You scored higher than 35% on pomp

Just a couple different answers turned me into a masterful rider on an FJR1300. Good, I was scared to ride home for fear of wadding up my wife's SV650... : )

Yamaha FJR1300
You scored 4 moxie, 6 zeal, and 1 pomp!
You have the characteristics of a master street rider. On the way to work, your love for riding sometimes leads you to take the long way. The 50-miles-of-back-roads long way. You live for the perfect road, and plan vacations around riding.
You need a bike that can handle your addiction to the twisties as well as comfortably carry two on a weekend trip through the mountains. Your bike is the FJR1300. Can I borrow it someday?

My test tracked 3 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender:

You scored higher than 45% on moxie
You scored higher than 83% on zeal
You scored higher than 23% on pomp

quote:

Ok Jose then why are the Buells so high to insure?

1. Cause insurance adjusters think the frame is totalled when a tip over causes a dent in it?

2. It's got clipons and a fairing, must be a sportbike, so insure it like one?

3. It's aimed at younger riders, who tend to be more risk taking riders

4. the advertising shows the bikes doing wheelies/stoppies, encouraging risky riding behavior?

And so on....

During the battletrax at Homecoming, I talked to the new Buell CEO about the insurance issue while waiting in line for our turn at the course.

He said they were aware of the issues and were trying to "educate" the insurance companies about the Buells and were looking into getting one company to be kind of like the "official" Buell insurance company so they can offer lower rates. Like the HD Insurance, but more Buell specific.

Sounded encouraging, I hope they can get something like this going.

Harley 883 Sportster surprise, it was my first MC
You scored 3 moxie, 5 zeal, and 1 pomp!
You scored dead center average, lacking any of the personality quirks that normally drive people to motorcycling. being a multiple skydive survivor counts for nada However, if you do ride, statistics would suggest that you are destined for a Harley-Davidson, probably something in the Softail line.

You might have noticed that's a lot of moolah for an (arguably) obsolete piece of machinery, and you're too rational and attitude-free to need the Biggest and Baddest that the marketeers tell you to buy. A far more reasonably priced taste of the Harley Kool-Aid is the 883 Sporty, a fun little beast that leaves you with plenty of cash to customize.

On the other hand, the only reason I'm bringing up the Harley-Davidson product line at all is due to the fact that Harley is the choice most people think of when they consider getting into motorcycling, and that's mostly because they don't know much about the alternatives. or they have an American MC bias

Thought experiment: if you were the only person left on earth, and you could pick any motorcycle you wanted, what would you choose? Best looking or best engineered? Your test results don't really point in any direction strongly, so I'll try to nudge you towards substance over style.

Consider: a FXST Softail weighs 629lbs dry, the base version starts around $14k, and will make 75-80hp -- after you tweak it with pipes and a jet kit. A Buell XB12R weighs 395lbs dry, costs $10.5k and makes 103hp, stock. have an XB9 An Aprilia Tuono R weighs 417lbs, costs $12k, and makes 125hp, stock. (We won't even mention the bang for buck of the Japanese competitors.) Still a fan of retro-classic styling? Then at least consider Harley's V-Rod, which mixes in some modern engineering into the equation (596lbs, 125hp, $17k). looking that direction

While the Sportster is a reasonable compromise, you may discover that you enjoy the added feedback provided by standard-style bikes such as the Suzuki SV or the Ducati Monster. dig the Monster S4 Dark (If you must hang with the Harley crowd, they'll be less likely to give you grief if you choose the Buell, though.)

You have the potential to be a great rider. Take the MSF class, did that and choose a bike that won't hold you back!

My test tracked 3 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender:

You scored higher than 28% on moxie
You scored higher than 34% on zeal
You scored higher than 47% on pomp

Jose..HD insurance stopped offering insurance in quite a few states a few years ago. Hell even her in their home state you can no longer get it.

If they cant offer insurance on their beloved bigtwins, there is no way in hell they will ever do it for Buell.

Hey, this not just a Buell problem. I bought an Aprila Tuono, no tickets, no prior accidents...they wanted from $1,400 to $2,300 a year to insure the beast...so I am just running liability.

If the companies think U R riding a sport bike, you are stuck. Most companies I called didn't know the models, didn't know the model differences. Most people I talked to were dumb as a post...just hourly drones on the phone.

ah, the GS. I worked for BMW motorcycle group for awhile, we used to say that the GS was their top (if not only) 'sportbike', due to it's excellent street/twisty abilities.
...likely the most versatile motorcycle ever made....

My results:

Harley 883 Sportster
You scored 3 moxie, 5 zeal, and -2 pomp!

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. What the heck am I supposed to do with an 883?? Does it come with leather streamers and a plastic yamaka helmet too?? Can't I at least pretend it's a SuperTwins racer? I think it's worth at least two extra moxie points if you yell at the screen after seeing your results.

Peter- Are you saying I can't rent a kangaroo to hop around on while vacationing in Australia? Well that sucks. I guess I'll go vacation in China where at least I can wrestle with the panda bears.
