Sounds fun... What track?

Hey Blake, Brian.. If you guys do the road thing.. I'd like to offer my services as 'Road Judge'.. I'll run a fine chronograph from a start/finish point and of course survey the 'course' with each rider to ensure that the same roads are used for each..

Just give me some time.. Or better yet, pick an area neither of you ride in regularly.. Like mine.... Just a thought or five..

Brian, you are really something. fyi, i just went back and deleted all my posts related to this thread, all except the one where i apologized to you for "baiting" you, as FMJ put it.

i did this basically in exchange for deleting your "finger" pic above -- i figured me vaporizing about 15 or so of my posts would equal making your "signature" photo go away.

changed my mind about exercising my moderator privileges, however, as the more i thought about it, the more i realized your self-portrait above -- and the fact you chose to dredge it up again -- speaks volumes about who you are, certainly better than MY incessant drivel.

like i said, my apology to you is still intact, back a page or two. maybe you missed it, maybe not, but it's there, just in case.

now then, an apology to the REST of you, in case it was my "baiting" of Brian that brought back Cecil. my bad for getting caught up in this stuff. sheesh, i don't even own a Buell anymore.

it's been an interesting ride.

peace. out.

The track day was great. No thoughts about how my inferior front end created for a worse riding experience, just fun track riding.

Chop and I really stirred it up for a couple of laps, too. That was a hoot. I had a good crop of students, too, and saw noticeable improvements in all of them.

What a great day.

Does anyone know where to get a catalog of BRAG merchandise?
My BRAG membership packet mentions an item list, but they forgot to include it.
The local Buell dealer doesn't have one.

This $50 coupon BRAG sent me for taking the MSF can be used for BRAG merchandise, but I can't find out what is available....

Vik; looks very much like you snug a GSXR front end on that bike ...?

What year and model (750 or 1000) did it come off of? How much of the GSXR stuff do you need to complete the change? Forks, wheels, front brakes and rotors, fender, triple trees, new clipons ?? I know Zoran sells the bearings, but did you need anything else? Approximate cost?

Farklers wants to know : )

Cool picture btw. Who do you ride with/instruct for?

Thanks

Henrik

Henrik:

It's a 2002 GSXR1000 front end and the only thing I needed to fit it on the bike was a $55 bearing from Zoran.

This is not the best of the GSXR front ends. I went for it because I got the complete front end for $400. This included the forks, triples, clip ons, levers, master cylinder, 6 piston calipers, brake lines and axle. I then picked up a front wheel with rotors for another $200.

If I had my choice, I'd go with a '04 or '05 GSXR600/750 front end. Those are commanding about double the money, though.

The GSXR1000 forks are made by Kayaba where the 600/750 forks are Showas. When I had my forks reworked, I found that the parts for the Kayaba forks were much more expensive.

I ride for Zoom Zoom track days. I had been attended their events for some time and finally scored an instructor gig about a year ago. Great organization and lots of fun.

Zoom Zoom looks cool, but that "No Crash" policy - ouch! Is it strictly enforced?

Henrik,

The no crash policy is evaluated on a case by case basis. The Z2 director, Chris, found that someone who crashes in the morning is very likely to crash again. What we do is a head check.

First, the bike has to pass tech again. Next, if it is not yet lunch time, they need to sit out until lunch time. At that time, the person will have a one on one with Chris. Chris will then make the call.

If the crash is after lunhc, it is very unlikely we'll let that person back on teh track that day; however, we will do what we can to get their bike back into shape and even give it a mock tech so they can be sure it's ready for next time.

Apologies in advance, this post could be perceived as "bait" even though it is not intended to be. It is merely a comparison and something to ponder.

Yesterday we were shown a link to a brief story about a Suzuki frame that completely failed. It didn't merely leave it's rider stranded somewhere. This bike flat out pitched it's rider down the track all because of a quality control issue. Somehow I am unable to find a picture of that rider flipping the bird to any Suzuki engineer. Why is that?

No doubt, taste may not be changed by argument. I grew to dislike the buzz of an inline 4. I did enjoy the turbine like feel of the Honda Sabre/Interceptor engine, but lacked the funds at the time. I found temporary happiness in a Yamaha triple. Then, a hiatus in my riding. Fiance, children, laziness, pick an excuse. When I decided to ride again, Ducati 999's just don't fit me. Circa 2000 Monster's & Triumph Speed Triple's looked like rolling parts piles with wires hanging out. ( The New 2005 Speed Triple does hit my buttons though, it cleaned up nice. ) The '01 Cyclone looked like a stubby, angry wasp in a sea of black & Chrome on the showroom floor. It Fit. I bought. My only regret is I didn't get one cheaper. But I found Badweb after I bought a Buell.

Sorry about that Ferris. I guess for some that pic is like bringing a gun to a knife fight?

BTW, I never felt as though you were baiting me. At least not as well as I've apprently baited you. :P

Okay look, I'll tell you all the same thing I told Court the last time I saw him. I DID in fact have fun on the XB9's I rode. Especially the second one I rode where I really got to ring its neck a bit. The "revvy" 9 motor went pretty well in that last 500rpm and responded really well when kept in the sweet spot. So from that perspective I thought the bike was pretty good. It was comfortable up to around 125mph and seemingly could hang there all day. But I don't think there's much beyond that.

It DID steer heavy. Nothing I couldn't overcome and nothing that I would consider horrible. My expectations were, however, quite high considering the wheelbase and geometry and stuff. IMHO the feel of the bike doesn't live up to the stat sheet. But again, I'm told that proper suspension setup fixes that. I'm certain that my 225lbs overloaded the suspension a bit.

XB's are not horrible bikes. Comparing them to Japanese 600's and 1000's is foolish. And IMHO for all of it's innovation, the XB falls a little short. That's all. It's my point of view.

C'mon

Vik,

Maybe we should take up another collection for your racing adventure, like when you first started, then you can buy a faster and better handling bike like a Buell. <ducking>
