Ebears avatar is not a picture of him.. (at least I don't think so) .. and Jerry, I think you know that as well.. Or do you?? Hehehehehe..

(lust lovin' some of these new 'emoticons')

Can you have dew point below freezing?

I have to open a transformer tomorrow. I am supposed to measure the dew point inside. Ambient air temp is well below freezing, in fact about 40o below freezing.

Dew is the temp at which air is saturated with water vapor, which of course does not exist below freezing.

What to do.....it's only a $22M transformer, but I'd like to be careful.

: )

http://www.ace.mmu.ac.uk/eae/Weather/Older/Frost.html
Dew point below freezing is called Frost Point, at which point hoarfrost occurs. Honestly, it is apparently called "hoarfrost".

So you have been given the task to measure the frost point. I didn't name it, I just looked it up.

Below freezing it becomes the "Frost Point Temperature." @ -40, far colder than the condensation temperature. Any water vapor present in the unit has sublimated into frost. Or ice.

Got it!

Thanks....meter on the way from Cole Parmer. Frickin' metere was only $400, but the NIST Certs added another $200!

Thanks for the help,

I guess maybe in the future I'll click on someones name and check out their profile before making a fool of myself.

Dtrain..All the rodes your honey EBEAR mentioned are around here. Good roads. There are a LOT of nice curvy roads around. Mt. Diablo is good if there isn't any cars. I got stuck behind a soccer mom in a mini van on the way down, and she wouldn't move over!! North in Sonoma County is Beautiful. I like the rides out there the best. HWY 1 is fun if it's not a busy day.

I was misinformed about the pricing to get into the grounds at Barret Jackson so instead I went to Firebird Drageway and shot some of the TOP FUELERS doing Time Trials. God I love the smell of Nitro in the afternoon : D

NewXB9er,
Yeah those are some roads I don't travel much but I'd love to check them out sometime. I usually don't go on too many unfamiliar roads that far from home unless I'm following someone that's been there before and knows their way around. I'd love to check out the Berkeley hills and the Oakland hills. I took a road once off of Niles Canyon that headed north and ended up in Oakland, I was on a charity run following about 100 other bikers, and I'd like to explore that road again soon. Today I'll be wrenching on my new XB9. Changing engine oil and primary oil, installing Jardine exhaust, etc. Got the Stage 1 ECM and K&N in the other day. Also installing front and rear axle sliders and frame pucks today as well. I put some CF frame covers on the other day, attached them with heavy duty velcro strips so the frame pucks gotta attach to the CF. I guess the pucks will still protect the bike though I keep thinking if the bike goes down the CF frame covers might come off since they are only held on with velcro. I hope I don't ever have to test that theory. Lets get together one day soon for a ride!
Keep your knees in the breeze!

Dtrain,
Yeah, I just put on my D&D, Techlusion, sliders, pegs, and now I've got to paint! I'll probably paint the week after next. The hills are a nice ride. It's slow going, but Great views!! On a clear day, you can see the ocean. I try to explore new roads as often as I can. I just go at a comfortable pace, so I know what's around the corner.

Hi everyone. not been on for a while.
Still planning coming over in the summer and bringing the S1 with me. Lots of paperwork to do and documents to get to be able to ship the bike.Weater is not good for riding over here at the moment. Bike in shop having anther oil leak sorted. Has anyone had their exhaust headers powder coated??? Does it flake off???Thinking of having it done but cannot get an answer from coaters as to whether it will stay put.

Hey Mick, when you get here you can get the headers ceramic coated in that nice blue from the X1W series...or silver or black or...? Several good companies stateside with fast turn around. Or, you could get a set of headers and send them over and have them waiting or source a good ceramic or high-heat coating applier locally.

Nice lookin' bike! I was always partial to the Nuke Blue S1's and S3's

cold weather testing of the city-x handguards went well today. 25 degrees, overcast, and a stiff breeze out of the north. went for a 30 mile putt. widder heated vest was very welcome, i just run it with a direct 1/4 inch phone plug, no thermostat required. plug it in and go. the handguards do help some, but still ran the heated grips on high. HID low beam setup still performing well, bright as hell, beam is well defined with a sharp cut-off. it throws a LOT OF LIGHT, more than the 3 other 55 watt PIAA bulbs wired on the high beam circuit. chain drive testing is also going well. need to carve out a chain slider/swingarm protector soon. probably use a hunk of UHMW polyethylene, or some such material. open to suggestions here. nice to be riding alaska in january, i know winter is right around the corner. regards, dean

I'm reposting this up here on the front pages to get it some attention. If you haven't yet stepped up to support the Buell racers this year, please reach in.....$10, $20, $50, or $250....it ALL helps. The key is everyone has to do a little. Thanks in advance, Court

In case you haven't seen the topic on the Quick Board, or if you have but are unsure about pitching in on the effort.

Hey XBoard! Firebolts are racing AMA FX this year, up against the top Japanese factory riders and machines. The Buell racers are pretty much privateers and badly need our support.

I'm calling in the markers for all those who enjoy the board. Now is your chance to show your appreciation for this fine forum while helping support Buell racers in the AMA Formula Xtreme series.

What is BadWeB worth to you? At least as much as a subscription to a couple moto mags, a paltry $20? Too much? Tight budget? Then do what you can, just please don't make me plead like a starving puppy.

Maybe if we pull a PBS and shut down posting for periodic fundraising appeals, we can generate a bit more interest. LOL! Please don't make me resort to that!

What do you say ya bunch of fuel-framers?

<In my best old man voice>... Why I recall back in the nacent days of BadWeB, long before the fuel-framers even existed, just a few dozen of us old tube-framers raised enough funds to help blow the doors off four world speed records at Bonneville.

The XB was made for turning. Lets help get the FX racing Firebolts turning laps on the heels of the big money factory big shots at team Honda.

For now, we are just collecting pledges. Add your pledge HERE at the bottom of the page.

Thanks for your consideration. Thank you very much!

Your humble servant,

Blake
