Ferris; congratulations on making "the man" see it your way. Doesn't happen too often.

Saro; shot you a mail before I saw Court's post. You're still welcome should plans change.

Midknyte: you've got a keeper ; )

As far as the Thunderdome Hill Climb contest,I hope ya'all are putting on knobbies cause since Travis and my missing Friday night last year...We'll be makin' up for it with the arrival of my "Off weekend bike" ala XR 600R...I'll be on the neighbors plateau before you can say "Yeller V-Strom!(and without an exhaust It'll yell with dem Buells too!!)

YOU can bring a less than 7500 mile 49 state vehicle into the state if you move here.

Al, the person I spoke to on the phone did not indicate that I could do that. You got a link to anything I could print out and hold for reference if I need to?

Bradley, the 7500-mile restriction applies to current California residents only, as i stated earlier. as Al stated above, you, as an Illinois resident, can bring your bike/s and car/s here with no restrictions related to the 7500-mile threshold.

see

http://www.dmv.ca.gov/vr/newvehicle.htm

and

http://www.dmv.ca.gov/vr/osreg.htm#BM2560

and/or call the California DMV at 800/777-0133. yeah, you've got to work thru a "phone tree", but i just called on your behalf and was speaking to a human in less than a minute, who concurred with my statements above.

good luck!

Ferris

I believe you, really I do. I spoke to a human yesterday and explained my situation, and she was unaware or unwilling to relate that tidbit to me (I suspect unaware - she was very pleasant to talk to and helpful).

Midknyte,
Bear in mind that when it comes to vehicles or firearms that the policy is that government representatives can not give you legal advice or rulings, they can only point you to the legislation -- unless you find someone willing to speak like I found once when inquiring about a 1973 911T Porsche and the DMV person happened to own one.

Do your research, and print out any relevant pages you find to take with you to the registration office. There are rules, and there are interpretations of rules, and sometimes the rules interpretations change after the fact. There is a well known case involving an SKS firearm out there, there are similar cases relating to motor vehicles. As long as you bought the vehicle in question well before you decided to become a Californian then you "should" be okay.

Just one note of caution: make photocopies of any documentation you have prior to visiting any registration offices, including your driver's license. In fact you may want to accidently loose your current driver's license and get a replacement before going just to have a spare one with you.

That's the strangest statement ever associated with the CA DMV! Seriously, good luck on your move.

"using this as an excuse for a nice long roadtrip. "

My roadtrip to California lasted about 14 years.
Check Reno and Lake Tahoe if that's an option.

everyone i've dealt with during my little skirmish with the California DMV has been super, from the local DMV manager right on up to the honchas in Sacramento. even had the opportunity to spend about ten minutes on the phone with the manager of CARB, who was also helpful and generous with his time. i have no complaints at all with how i've been treated by the CA DMV. (and very much looking forward to riding my OWN motorcycle for a change : ) ).

Check Reno and Lake Tahoe if that's an option.

which, pleasantly enough, would require a twistyicious transit right thru the heart of Ferrisville to accomplish for one riding up from the Southland. free tours available...

(ps: James, missed you at the last O'fast, hope to see you next time around. : ) )

Sleez, I have been reasonably happy with Delorme StreetAtlas 2005. Don't know if it will directly extract jpg's, but you can always just get a screen shot (ctrl-prntscrn buttons on a windows XP box) and then paste them to the word doc.

Good GPS support also.

All the CA DMV people are really nice because they've regulated all the bad ones out of existence. (Just a joke, people)

what i am hoping for, is something that will let me drop a section (state, county, etc) with paths that the ride took highlighted and possibly notations (landmarks)

thanks

I wonder if the factory Suzuki, Yamaha and Kawasaki teams will take the bait?

Mike,
They are off a 2000 Cyclone, at least that's whay my parts manual says.
Did you recently get them off Ebay?

I need one! My left one is a chronic leaker. lots of very fine scratches on mine.

They are pretty cheap actually, less than $35 each with Dave's Buell good guy discount.

EBear, weren't we dirt bike riding on the road you forced me to go down? Just spent hours and hours getting the bike ready for the first West LA Sport Bike Night tonight on Lincoln across from the Aprilia dealer. You know how us plastic LA types have got to put on appearances, LOL. Particularly West LA locals, trying to keep up with the Jones'. Nice turn out though.

James, upper Dry Creek Road (which parallels Sequoia/Kings Canyon NP) has your Blast's name written all over it: tight, demanding, relentless, fun! hope to see you in October, if not sooner. : )

ps: it'd be cool to get Sparky and Jen up here for the weekend, too. : )
