I am not going to get sucked into this beyond making a couple simple assertions (IMHO).

The great irony here is that fundamentalist Christians and scientific athiests are both making the exact same mistake, and *both* mistakes are based in dogma (which, by definition, means you start with an immutable conclusion and start shaping the facts to fit).

Anyone who says that since Evolution happened, God does not exist, is a crappy scientist and is fool who is reaching conclusions completely unsupported by facts.

Anyone who says the creation story from Genesis *must* be *exclusively* literal instead of possibly metaphorical is missing many of the staggering truth's of scripture, and does not know their Bible very well. Likewise, anyone who says none of the Bible is literal and absolute is just as big a fool.

IMHO. I'll drop that grenade and leave now : ) Merry Christmas : )

Oh my gosh...Creation vs Evolution. WTF is next to upset the apple cart.

Somebody was smart enough to let the political thread go. I think the war thread went away, either that or at least I am blinded to it. Our language and avatar's got cleaned up and now we have fundamental faiths and beliefs being challenged.

How about we just keep to riding, wrenching and good times and leave the controversial stuff for our personal lives. The BWB is a special interest group founded around Buell Motorcycles and had nothing to do with God, Lucifer, Darwin or the past present and future political powers. You want that, I strongly suggest you go to another special interest website what thrives on either your ideals or your intimidating nature.

I for one am tired of folks always having to test the waters to see what they can get away with posting. How about we cut the BS Gamesmanship and just get along together. That's what our ancestors would have wanted regardless whether they came crawling out of the swamp or were deposited here by some Diety.

Sorry folks, but that is what I believe in. Growing together, not apart is the intelligent, mature thing to do. We can all learn from one another but we aren't going to get anywhere if we are continually employing grade school playground intimidation tactics.

Think about it.

Reep - I agree...but only to the extent that the "scientific atheist" is making a causal connection between his belief in evolution and his disbelief in God is he guilty as charged. There's no problem with him believing in one and disbelieving the other, as long as he doesn't claim that one belief proves the other. That would be the antithesis of science.

Evolution is scientific fact you say? Could you please prove it then so we can end the entire debate? Merely exhibit to us anything at all that shows how one species developed into an entirely different species?

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

ever heard of the Galapagos Islands? There's plenty of evidence of evolution there. Lots of species that are markedly different than the original.

Ahhh, but I'm ahead of you. You'll say.. thats not proof, cuz "I" didnt see the original. Well no shite. You can live long enough to see the changes. Outside the human life span. But I'm here to tell ya, there something else.... Bacterial and viral evolution. Happens easily within human lifespans. Can and has been proven that species do evolve over time.

Ever get a cold? do you get one nearly every year? Ya know why? The cold/flu virus evolves. It changes over time and becomes something your immune system does not recognize. Hence, you get "sick" as your immune system gears up to repell the "new" invader.

Still one step ahead of you... "a virus isnt 'alive'" you say... ok, Check out research into the Staphylococcus bacteria. Seems as though it has evolved over the years into new species. Pretty well documented, as it has a tendancy to kill people by infection.

also, look into rates of genetic divergence in populations (pick a life form). Genetic divergence is the stepping stone to evolution. Give it enough time, and bingo, new species.

Studied, documented, proven, published and accepted as fact.

It's funny that just before that you said -

"How about we just keep to riding, wrenching and good times and leave the controversial stuff for our personal lives. The BWB is a special interest group founded around Buell Motorcycles and had nothing to do with God, Lucifer, Darwin or the past present and future political powers. Anyway... The Dhali Llama says - "You must be the change you wish to see in this world." ; )

Sorry. I couldn't pass it up.

To the point though... Why do most Christians assume that God did NOT see a chimp sitting there using a rock to crack open a coconut and say "Hey... That little guy is pretty cool. I think I'll make him intelligent and find a pretty little chimpette for him to have some fun with." Poof. The thing that both creationists AND evolutionists seem to miss is that sure, God created the earth in six days... but a day shall be "LIKE" a thousand years and a thousand years shall be "LIKE" a day. That single little word thrown in there has the effect of removing the entire reference to time as "MAN" knows it. I'm a Christian that believes that "With God... All things are possible." Personally, I think that close to the entire bible is only there so we have something to chew on. As far as deciding on what it actually means and sticking to it... I'll ask when I get there.

M1Combat...How enlightening. LOL Way to old change anything other than my Depends (just kidding). Am just an old fart with an opinion. Sort of a "Live and Let Live" one at that.

Reep...Not to worry. Reflecting back at my history here on the BWB, there ain't no way. I respect what the custodians do, but it is most certainly a responsibility I would not want.

Custodians in general...Just a few words of wisdom and most certainly not an Anti-Blake sentiment.

The responsibility that has been bestowed upon you is a good thing and can be an effective tool towards making the BWB an even better place. Just don't lose sight of your inner selves. You know the positive things that you have said and done on the BWB that caused you to be selected to be a custodian.

A simple test is to look back at your posts before you became a custodian and compare the content to your more recent noncustodial posts. You just may find a difference concerning quality and quantity.

The moral of the story is try not to end up like a 1970's LEO. You know, the ones that went through wives faster than beer and spent too much time at "Choir Practice" and lost almost all their civilian friends.

Choptop,
My wife volunteers at our childrens schools, she is very artistic and makes displays for the halways and classrooms. She has been doing this for years now. She has become well liked and trusted by the staff. Over the years she has been asked to do many different things for different subjects and holidays, including religious leaders and events associated with other religions. She/we learned very early on that Jesus, the cross or anything associated with Christ is strictly forbidden. Even at Christmas time.
She approached the staff about this (again, early on), and was basically told, anything else is ok, but under no circumstances would any reference to Jesus (for example a manger scene) be allowed.
Another example, my oldest son is now in middle school, earlier this year in one of his classes they were studying the history of world religions, he along with the rest of the class, were sent home with, a disclaimer, I guess you would call it, that said the subject of Jesus or Chistianity would not be allowed to be discussed and that if we wanted our children to be aware of that aspect of religious history, that we could teach them at home, but it was not to be brought up in class. When my wife approached the teacher about it, he said that Jesus was too controvesial and offensive to some people, and that he didn't want to jepordize his job.

Maybe it's just our school district (Long Beach Unified), that is so paranoid about Jesus. I dunno.

I don't want to give the impression that it's all gloom and doom. We have been very happy with our childrens teachers so far. Middle school is a new experience for us, with new challenges, but it's fine too.

Also, on Darwinism/evolution, there is more evidence for inteligent design than there is for the theory of evolution.

It takes more faith to believe in evolution than it does to believe in God. Evolution is a belief system all it's own, one with no need for God that has become very attractive to many.

Ok,
Point taken Dino.

I do know there are many different beliefs and opinions here.

It's not my intention to divide, so with that in mind, and having just watched the "Blue Collar Tour Rides Again" comedy. They end the video with a segment called "I believe". So...

I believe...

...Motorcycles are great...

I believe...

...A thumping V-Twin is nectar to my soul...

I believe...

...Buells fire my imagination...

and I believe...

...A roaring Buell at speed to be the best danggone Adrenaline Rush I've ever had!

>ever heard of the Galapagos Islands?

Yup, spent over a week there on a little bitty boat/yacht. On _____* I saw something interesting - a KawazukiNijaCBRZX1000 ... not interesting? How 'bout if I point out there are not more than 5 miles of roads on the island if you include all the streets in the only town? That bike's never been out of first gear. It was also one of the only big-bore bikes I saw in Ecuador.

*ok, ok there's only 3 islands people live on the Galapagos and I forgot the name of the second largest one. It's somewhere on our 15hours of tape and it's not the one our friends live on. Cost for entry to the "park" for Ecuadorians? $6 Cost for gringos? $100. I need to get my citizenship papers filed before we go back ; )
If you saw Master & Commander:Far Side of the World, you got a decent 3minute look at the Galapagos. Amazing crash course in evolution.

Alan (Chop),
I would not dispute adaptation within a species which is what Darwin and many others have proved and documented. The theory I am not at all convinced of is that you take that, add millions of years and end up with all life on Earth. No proof of that whatsoever, in fact a lot of troublesome discoveries.

I have a book, you should take a look at it. Former atheist, Dr. Walt Brown, PhD from MIT wrote it. Some very interesting stuff. If you have an open mind. I do. Do you?

I don't know the truth like Ara claims to know it.

It is fun discussing it though. Someone inevitably brings religion into it though. :/ No need for that.

Merry Christmas to you and the Supermodel and all the Galbraiths.

Like Reep....I don't want sucked in, but I'll just say MERRY CHRISTMAS to all. That's s sincere wish regardless of what, or even if, you believe in anything.

I know what I believe in, I'm very comfortable and comforted with that.

I do have a fond memory of being told by someone seeking to impute his beliefs upon me...."I don't believe in anything I can't see". I handed him a pair of butter knives and invited him to have a seat before the 15A duplex receptacle in the wall.

Not exactly theology in it's highest moment, but the point was made.

Merry Christmas and peace....

I couldn't say it better myself.

quote:

Micro-evolution is the adaptations and changes within a species while macro-evolution is the addition of new traits or a transition to a new species. Micro-evolution is a fact that is plainly observable throughout nature. Macro-evolution is a theory that has never been observed in science. Evolutionist usually argue that those who believe in creation are ignoring the facts, however, there is nothing that evolutionist observe in science that creationist or Christians as a whole disagree with. The point of contention is not on what is observed, but the belief systems that interpret what is being observed. Nothing in the Bible contradicts science; it is the assumptions that evolutionists insert into their world view that contradict the Bible. Evolution is a hypothesis introduced as a possible explanation of origins.

A very merry happy sharey to you all! And if I were to take sides, I'd say - Merry Christmas! Yeah, there, I said it!

Hey all. On conduct and threads and whatnot. The powers that can be will do what they want here, but in the past year, I've come to view BadWeb as the virtual bar down the street from our dealership.

It's where we meet, and like a bar, or anywhere that you would like to visualize it as, there's going to be any number of conversations going. I'm not going to looking for another "establishment" to find a group of people who should want to talk about what I want to talk about, nor would I suggest that another one of us do the same. Go find a different table [read that as thread] maybe, but not the door. You are the people I speak to from day to day, I could give a whit some anonymous bunch somewhere else think if one day I find myself wondering about flying squirrel dietary supplements - I'd rather ask a group of friends whom I've already come to trust and, in most cases, respect. ; )

And like a bar, we've got our bouncer slash custodians already. Same rules apply as in meatspace - be a good patron or take it outside...

Now then. Make mine a rum & coke with grenadine.
