Jim, I would look at the float bowl vent and the fuel line supply. Going lean at top-end sounds like intermittant fuel supply caused by,.. ?? ,. vacuum or adverse pressure coming from ???

Roadkill had a severe backpressure problem untill we installed a different float bowl with a much larger inlet.

FMJ, just a thought here, but are you sure you're getting adequate fuel flow to the carb?

What petcock are you using? I've heard of folks with big HP bikes having to go to Pingel petcocks to get adequate fuel flow.

I would think that with a turbo fully spooled up you would be sucking a huge quantity of fuel, perhaps more than your petcock allows?

It's official now...I have absolutely no stock lighting left on my bike...besides idiot lights.

I need to find a way to keep things from breaking to pieces on the back of this thing. My 3rd tail light and 2nd lighting bracket have recently broke. I also need to find a constructive way to mount what's left of my license plate.

That pipe will not work on your S1. S1s have a header that goes over the frame, the 99 M2 goes under the frame.

point of note: Streetwise Performance necessories ....If you can get them to answer the phone, place an order, they WILL take your money(in my case $785) and will cease to answer calls, fail to ship anything, and fail to return your funds! The credit card company saved my ass! I am speaking from my own personal experience, and have a stack of letters to the better business Beaur... and to the credit card company and to Streetwise.....to prove it.

Hello Buellers!
Dana here, yep, I still have the Buell.
Just wanted to thank the gang on the tip of replacing the primary chain adjuster, a possible disaster was adverted.

I took the bike in to have the crank seal replaced and while they were in there I had them replace the chain adjuster with the new beefier design. Good thing to because the old one was cracked right across the middle (the metal part). The only thing holding it together were the grooves at the ends of the nylon "shoe". By the way the shoe had 16,000 miles on it and barely had any chain wear on it, tough stuff.

On my rainy ride home from the dealer I had a little adventure. Everything was going well, except for the rain part and all of a sudden the bike started running on one cylinder, Check engine light came on, Great! After slowing down and limping along for a while the second cylinder would kick back in for a couple of miles and then go through the same cycle. It did finally get me home.

I'm theorizing it must have been associated with the plug or coil wires. Since it would dry out from the engine heat and my slower speed and then kick back in.

I remember along time ago on this board some people were having problems with wet weather riding but forgot what some of the fixes were. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I have a set of new plug and coil wires in the garage (high performance Yellow!) so I'll swap those out.

A friend of mine, Racerboy, had a similar problem once. We had been riding for two days in and out of rain on a trip to Deals gap. The bike would run well for a while, then it would start to miss on one or both cylinders. It turned out to be the temp sensor in the rear head was bad. Buell of Knoxville put a good one in and no problems since then. The sensor is not expensive but the special socket needed to remove it is.

I had a wet weather problem riding in Colorado a couple of years ago. It wasn't until I got down to the flats that I realized I had a real problem.
It turned out that moisture had gotten up into the plug boot and would short out the spark under hard throttle or high rpms.
I just got some dielectric silicone grease and sealed the boots. It runs fine now. I could tell which one was bad by the black on the porcelain.

I assume that temp sensor is that wired thing next to the rear spark plug? I was looking at that also because it had water on the connector. I read somewhere a person cut a wire slot in a deep well socket as a inexpensive sensor extractor. Of course a cheap socket might not work to well with a slot in it.

Now that you mention it when I changed the spark plug wires, the base of the porcelain was black. Road grime or arcing hmmmmm.

I think I'll try the dielectric grease first. I have some of that in the garage.

I had problems like V2win is describing, but mine didn't seem to care if it was raining.

I slotted a cheap socket with a dremel, took about 25 minutes and 2 cut wheels.

If you check the ecm you should see trouble code 14.

The sensor is around 30.00.

Easy fix. Good luck

A special tool to change the head temp. sensor? I just slid a box end wrench over the wire and took mine out that way.

I had a fun day.Went and played Battletrax with Mazda's.Mazda is having a big national contest where you go thrash Mazda's new 6 sedans on an autocross course,running against a pro drivers index.And I held up the Buell end of things by posting the second fastest time of the day and the 6th fastest of the meet,(only times faster when I left were the pro guys)even beating a bunch of drivers with pro experience.What a blast,you all oughta try it if it comes to your area.Hell,they encouraged you to beat on them.It was held out at the old Alameda NAS and was right on the bay and about 78 degrees--rode the Buell down,of course. (This is repeated over in the Battletrax thread.)
