Reepicheep: I'd never leave on the old gasket. To me...that's begging for trouble. There is gasket remover out there that seems to be the same as a gel paint remover. Brush a lil on and the gasket will lift much easier. I use a plastic scraper to assist and a shop vac if I'm concerned with where the gaset material falls.

I got mine from ebay (new) for about $50.

Neil:

Close but no cigar.....I have a case of the S2 "T Series Touring Accesory Catalogs".

Need a catalog? For the bars, you may have to check with someone who's more tapped into the industry than Blake or I. But, if you can't find them, drop me a note....
:)

Court

(P.S. - I'd bet Tat has the bars and if not I know where you can get a set of "aftermarket" Touring bars (adjustable) for the S2. You're going to LOVE this bike)

So I get up this morning, shower, and start to get dressed. After selecting a distinctly non-motorcycular shirt, Loli asks, "Don't you have a Buell shirt you can wear?" Gotta love that girl...

Court, please tell me more about the aftermarket adjustable touring bars for S2's. Are they 7/8"?

If so, I need that info. Gracias.

Thanks Dave. Went back out this morning with a clear head and a humble spirit (and a can of gasket remover) and they came off very easily. A toothbrush works great to apply the stuff, even if it comes from a spray can. Just spray it in the lid.

CCryder, part number for S3T/S3 97-98 models, 1 1/2 inch taller slightly pulled back touring handlebars is N0002.E

Can you use the same for the S2, Buell has them listed at $40.00.

Hey, still have those stock blast handlebars if you are looking for something like that, if they'll fit.

Hey all, Going to do the Honda Hoot (Deals Gap) thing in June on my S1W. And not looking forward to the ride from D.C. on that tiny seat (Corbin). Short of an add on gel pad, anyone know of something that is more than functional and isn't really ugly?

Thanks

Southernmarine: Good idea but the S2s run a clip-on type handle bar. They're not interchangeable with the S3s.

I seem to recall that the S2 handle bars are 1" in diameter and use Harley switch gear. This would mean that later Buell and most after-market bars would not fit since they are 7/8". Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks for the picture Dave. I just found that out. I'm new to Buells and learn something new every time I check this site out. I was wondering before I posted if there was a big difference. Wish I could be of more help.

Hey that's a cool lookin' Blast ya have there Robert. (Yes a modified Blast! hehe!) Very balanced and clean appearance.

I've been drawn to Buells since '96 and I've been on the board here since the fall of '98. I learn somethin' damn near every week!! The collective knowledge here is absolutely amazing.

Does someone know where I can get a used '99-02 wiring harness for a DDFI bike? I'd also settle for just the ECM connectors.

Thanks Dave, only thing I've done is what you see, the stripe, bar end mirrors and new handlebars. Makes it a little more comfortable for me. I talked the wife into letting me upgrade next year to the Firebolt or the Lightning/XB9S. I'm gonna spend this time enjoying this bike and figuring out which one I want if I really want to upgrade. Right now, leaning to the 9S.

She's not fond of bikes, but when she saw these Buells and how much I fell in love with them, well she's also become a fan of them. I doubt I'll ever get her to ride though. God I love this woman.

A disturbance in The Force on Thursday? Nah that was just a really big guy (me) passing people on a really small bike (FZR400) at the track. heheheheheee... Spanked the ole 400 around ThunderHill for part of the day. Getting used to it as a prelude to racing it at Willow Springs with eeeeek next month.

Got the forks torn down right now, and I'm chasing some carb issues.

but then again, it could just be the burritos...

Dan.....you drive looks like mine did back in my "5 Buell, 9 bike" days. I was digging through 1996 files today and found the original sales literature and owners manuals from my XR-1000. I know what you're up against cleaning and maintaining them. For what comfort it may be, I'll share with you that the pictured stable would cost over $12K/yr to insure in New York.

Sorry about the cryptic message to Dave Gess the other day and it had nothing to do with Buell.

Now go ride....it's finally nice here and I'm off to run!

So did anyone else notice in the current Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue, across from some babe in a bikini (Melissa Keller p148), there's a Buell ad with the tag line "You don't ride a spec sheet"?

Josh

oh and Dan - you suck.

This week has not been a good day for my Stubby. She sprung two leaks on the primary side...both in the inspection cover and the primary gasket, my license plate relocator shattered, it's starting to seep from a pushrod tube, and both breather bolts are seeping. Mad.

A guy told me that these are the reasons why his Buell stays at home. Whatever...she's still relatively trouble-free overall.

I went out riding and headed to my local Buell dealer. I didn’t see any Buell bikes in the showroom. I asked the friendly sales man o you have any Buells? His response after checking his inventory sheet was yes #03 Blasts some m2 a x1 and others about 8 in all. I asked him where are they? He informed me they were in his warehouse about 2 miles away. This is a large showroom with about 40 or 50 Harleys in it but not 1 Buell. Can anyone guess what his response was when I asked him why?
