Another Buell Event and me working. Please someone, remind me why I thought it necessary to start my own Engineering Firm?

Court,

Do you have photo of the bed set-up for your Ford? It looks interesting.

Good luck to all of the elves. I'll be thinking of you.

Just got back from the Gap. The Dragon was fun but not nearly as hard as I had imagined. Had a good time at the BRAG dinner, finally got to meet Jose & a few of the others out there.

Damn Bike broke down again. Friday afternoon myself & the wife were riding thru Smokey Mountain park, we parked at Laurel Falls & it wouldnt restart. Has spark, smells like it has gas, but the engine is sounding bad, same noise it made the other 2 times it dropped a valve.

Had to hitchhike 65 miles back to Fontana to get my truck....did I mention BMW bike riders suck!!! Had 2 groups pass us up & never even flinched. Myself & the wife standing on the side of the road, holding our jackets, helmets, tankbag & hitching thumb was out. About 16 of em in total, damn pricks. Had some chick in a Jeep come to the rescue.

Dont know whats wrong with the bike, I am taking it in tomorrow. If Buell ever produced a bigger piece of shit, i'd like to know where it is. 3rd time this bike has left me stranded.

Just read the rules for the 130 and 150 club rides at the flats. Specifically they state that if you exceed a set speed, you're immediatly disqualified. I've got a bike that has a theoreticall top speed of 200+ if it was able to achieve redline in 6th, and no idea what it actually tops out at (guessing 130 to 150). The speedo on it reads to 160mph but is VERY optimistic, especially with the radials I've fitted it with. How would one figure a way of accuratly determining speed before going so as NOT to piss off the officials by breaking the limit? (This is pretty much for curiosity only, I've no intention of running the bike, even though it would be fun to open it up out there... maybe I can get the time off...)

Anyone looking for a '99 X1 in EXCELLENT shape, MINUS ENGINE & TRANS? The bike is complete, with less than 1,000 miles on it. Bought new from a dealer in April 2002. Onyx alloy paint, with Performance Machine Rims, ... tires like new.

Needed the motor & trans for another project.

Email me with offers at:
nmeu@aol.com

Thanks,
Mr. X

Predius - they will ask you to run under the minimum speed for the specific club befor you run for the club, like "make your first run under a hundred so you can check your speedometer and get a feel for the salt" for the 130 club. If you blow the upper limit, like 147ish for the 130 club, ask Rocket.

Predius... I have a Delorme Earthmate GPS ($129) that will connect to a Palm Pilot (older serial port models). It will give speed very accurately, and will even log the entire run if you want. It will also hook to a laptop.

Most other GPS units have similiar capability, and will probably do speed without any external connection (like a laptop or a PDA). You can get them cheap at places like Best Buy.

Don't worry, apparently my insurance company is tracking your balance also!

Well they came up with a number and I came up with a number. Funny they were not the same.....so we met in the middle. Now to deal with the dealership for the pro-rated refund of my extended warranty. At least my insurance covers the replacements sales tax and title fees.

Second time around with the Digi guage.
Well,
the first time I wired it in was by the instructions. When it would not program anything but 1st gear, I called and was told to switch the tach and speedo wires as a kind of work-a-round. I did. Again, it will not work correctly. It now programs only first and second gears. The next thing they are telling me, is to take the power off the points. Again, a procedure that is not advertised or mentioned in the instructions. What I have been told, is that this thing doesn't seem to work with a simple hook up on a lot of US bikes. That alternatives have to be tried and the last time they did a HD / Sporster, they got results by using the power lead off the points. I do not know about you. But I am tired of products that take are money and then force us to monkey around with them to get them to work. I hope everybody that buys things advertised to work for Buells takes them back if they do not work. Or at least voices a concern.
Will I try the new power location? I am thinking about it. If it is to difficult to trace and get the unit wire back to where I can hook it in, probably not without any guarantees. But at least the unit will go back for a refund and for false advertising.

Buy at your own risk!

Predius,

Garmin makes excellent GPS with large numberical readouts. Cyclegadgets.com makes a mount to attach this to anytype of vehicle you can think of. A lot of outdoor shops sell a green garmin called the legend I think don't get the yellow or camoflage ones, the display is to hard to see at speed.

I ordered a "Tiny Tach" last week. Told them, i needed it by the start of THIS week, asked them to ship it 2nd day air (this was on Thursday). When I hadnt gotten any tracking number back from them by this morning, I called.

Them:"oh, yes, I have that order right here. Our tech is building that tach for you, should be done by the end of the week."

Me:"uhhhh, are you fucking stupid or what? dont you recall me telling you that I needed that tach no later than Tuesday, the 17th? AND that I asked for it to be shipped 2nd day air?"

Them: "oh yes, I have it right here, 'ship blue label ups'."

Me:"and you said it would be here by Tuesday.."

Them:...silence....

Me:...screaming....foul language....

Soooooo, the upshot is, I need a tach for the Triumph. Anyone have one to spare? I need an electronic tach for a thumper. I will return it after Bonneville. I'll pay for shipping both ways. Let me know.

Pray for Hot Dry Wind. . .

Salt Condition Update 9/16/02
(From www.saltflats.com)

As I promised, I went to Bonneville today (Monday Sept 16). It was raining lightly when I arrived. the course is wet, with some areas of standing water. There is a significant pond at the end of the access road. Even with Mondays rain there was much less water than I had seen on 9/8/02. Final decision on whether or not we will have a race course is still pending. I know many of you are trying to make race preparations and travel plans, and accurate information is needed. We need a little more time to watch and see if track conditions will allow racing to begin Friday (9/20/02). A final decision will be posted here by 6:00 PM Mountian time Tuesday (9/17/02). I wish I could let you know right now if World of Speed 2002 was On or OFF, but we are at the mercy of the weather, it will be another 24 hours before the final decision can be made. Dan Wright

Please, does anyone know of a source for a lense for my headlight, Buell wants to sell you the whole headlight assembly and all I need is the lense. I tried finding some Bosch dealers but came up empty.

Two sources actually ASB sells the lens but you can also get roughly the same thing from Candle Power. Its what I use anyway just insure that you order the American motorcycle lens and not a Brit/Japanese lens (points the wrong direction)

Moving Doppler for Wendover

Take a look at that ... looks to me like we've got a shot ... the weather has started moving more east than southeast and it looks like it's headed just north of the salt flats. Everyone here is trying to stay optimistic.
