Well the stearing wheel would be in the right, wouldn't it? Yes, lovely lass. Tell us about her Rocket, do tell. What is her name? Does your mum approve of her, hmmmmm? Well, Rocket how did you meet the girl. I am going to guess that she saw you pushing your bike on one of those many occasions and took pity on you as one might a stray dog and took you in. For the most important question. Will you be bringing the young lady to the colonies with you this trip, Rocket? Eh? We would like to meet her. Being the gentlemen we are, proper bikers and such we would like to meet the lass and give you our approval, not that you need it.
All, kidding aside. Very pretty girl that one.

from RRW

Apparently Shawn Higbee's Buell Uses Composite Pushrods

From a press release issued by 3M:

3M PUSHRODS MOVE ENGINE PERFORMANCE TO NEW LEVELS

ST PAUL, Minnesota--3M, a company known for innovation, has brought to market a new class of pushrods for high performance automotive engines. In lab tests and on-track competition, the pushrods, made of continuous fiber reinforced Aluminum Matrix Composite (AMC) material, have consistently outperformed steel, titanium and other metals. Stiffer and more durable than steel at about half the weight, 3M(TM) AMC Pushrods reduce flexing and extend service life, allowing engines to run longer at higher rpm - a key advantage in competition.

Shawn Higbee, three-time Professional Road Race Champion/Development Rider, Buell Motorcycle Company, says "AMC Pushrods are definitely helping me have confidence that I'll continue winning when I go to the track."

Been wondering why no one had done it yet. I was thinking plain ole carbon fiber though. Metal matrix AMC, sheesh! Price guesstimates anyone?

Can valves, rockers, and springs be too far behind? How about connecting rods? Cylinders? The pushrod valvetrain's inertial disadvantages may soon be significantly diminished. Ten grand rpm in a reliable Buell air cooled street bike? It could happen. :]

It's fun to think about anyway.

Blake,

I've looked in the race-circuit section but no solution was provided. I've written to Tat at ASB to ask if he plans to build these frame sliders for the X1/M2/S3 frames. I think it could interest a lot of Buell fans. Frame sliders are not too badly looking and they can nicely protect the exhaust headers, aircleaner and fuel tank in case of a crash and side sliding. Making a set specifically for the pre-XB frames would not be a big deal, it's mostly a question of designing a clamp to fit the tubular frame.

José Q.,

Don't you wish the factories would race what they sell...

in AMA Supersport!

From RoadRacing World

Quote:

8/11/2002
Factory Men Vote To Maintain Supersport Status Quo

Copyright 2002, Roadracing World Publishing, Inc.

In an AMA Pro Road Race Advisory Board meeting Friday night at VIR, factory team representatives voted to reverse proposed 2003 Supersport and Superstock rules that would have allowed machining of parts to increase compression.

The proposed rules were designed to give private riders and teams the ability to better compete with factory teams by eliminating the the "fast-enough, legal-enough" guessing game now played out in AMA tech on a race-by-race basis.

Although existing rules ban any machining of parts to raise compression, no competitive machines are actually stock and AMA Pro Racing officials do not publish the deck height specs submitted by manufacturers on AMA homologation forms.

The advantage manufacturers have by virtue of the fact that they supply unpublished deck height figures to AMA Pro Racing can be seen by comparing radar speeds of factory machines versus non-factory machines.

The Kawasaki ZX-6R Supersport racebikes ridden by Tommy Hayden and Tony Meiring have been especially fast when compared to private Kawasakis at most AMA events.

Representatives of the Honda, Kawasaki and Yamaha factory teams voted against the proposed rule change.

The Road Race Advisory Board is non-representative of the AMA paddock as a whole, notably lacking any representation of private riders like Brian Livengood, Michael Hannas or Tyler Wadsworth. The majority of riders in the paddock do know not who is on the advisory board; the exact composition of the advisory board has never been published by AMA Pro Racing.

That is sickening to me. The AMA needs to get real. What a bunch of UJM hugging hypocrytes. They need to rename themselves the UJMA. GO DUCATI IN 2003!!!

A 10k rpm Buell motor? Yes, sure, why not? But let's not monkey around with a mix of old and new technologies. Let's take things to the next level. Forget camshafts, springs, pushrods. Let's have micro-processor controlled valves (solenoid/pneumatic/hydraulic???).

Fiction? I don't think so. Don't you think Lotus, Cosworth, Ricardo............ are developing this as we read? Come on Erik, let's get this true world beating Buell on the street. You know it makes sense. In 20 years time we won't be talking about camshafts and pushrods anymore will we?

Ah yes the steering wheel ! That there seat that Gorgeous Woman is sat in is the 'pillion' seat in the TVR. Her hands ? Oh yeah, she's rolling a joint :) As for the Colonial type visit, I've had to leave her in Blighty. You guys couldn't handle her anyway. Trust me, even I can't !! Anyway, isn't this a Buell forum ???

But it is nice to be remembered even if it is by a bunch of 'sniffing' biker types ! Must dash, work to do and all that........

Frame sliders : got a response from Tat at ASB. He doesn't plan to build such accessory because of too little customer requests. So if you are a Buell owner who would consider such protective accessory for your X1/M2/S3, just drop an email to Tat : sales@americansportbike.com

If he receives enough request, he may re-consider his position.

Frame sliders are the kind of accessories that don't bring much attention until one experiences a crash or "contemplates" a crashed Buell from a friend...

I'm sorry Gus, I'm using a friends puter and I can't figure out how to scan the image down from a zillion and three chunks !

MCN have given us a front cover shot of a 'Naked ZX-9' and a better shot on page 2 too. What it looks like is an XBR lookalike frame and gas tank, a high level seat that I don't think is disimilar in style to the XBR's either, flat bars and bikini fairing. Swing arm is also similar styled and the wheels are 'old school' Buell, as in tube frame models. The only major styling cue I can think of non XBR style would be the four under seat pipes mimicking those of the MV F4 instead. Copycats copycats, but it does look cool even if it is a computer image based closely to what some MCN hack allegedly saw{sic}

Bring it on.....

I'm having trouble getting "service"?? from Buell Customer Service???

What is the best phone number to use? (Where someone will actually answer...and the mailbox is not FULL?)

Who is the person to talk to that can help?

I'm trying to get a "new" shock for my leaking "re-call shock" and I don't feel like waiting seven months again!
Also they won't waive the $100 "good faith" fee because the shock has been on the bike longer than one year- Although I only have 6k miles on the shock. Does this sound right? Anyone else have this experience?

The Gods are not happy with me. I get a day off from work to accomplish what is essentially 2-3 hours of move/transfer related tasks only to have the day be gloomy and rainy all day. I really wanted to spend the remainder of the day "testing" my new fork springs. Alas instead I washed the Blast (maybe it would enjoy a steam cleaned engine) and transfered my service manual to a 3" 3 ring binder (D-slant). It takes 227 vinyl sheet protectors (not including the wiring diagrams which I still need to laminate) and 5 cups of coffee to do the whole book. I'm waiting for the parts manual I just won in an auction to come and I will do the same with it in another binder. Sometimes I hate rain...it makes me feel too much like Martha Stewart.

BTW Blake I love the new Dictionary

Hey folks,

Two questions.

1) Anyone else here notice their F.I. Buell starts to run a little funky just before, and while the low fuel light is on?

2) Anyone out here experiencing spotting on their brake rotors?

Just a couple of things I'm pondering at the moment.

See ya'

Salt report...move it to LSR if needed!

Chris Land (Dad)from the XL-List set a new record in APF today at 150+ MPH....back up run of 155 I think. Their is a 1000 cc running M-PF at 147 MPH yesterday...I'm interested if he's gonna do M-PG & take Don Smith's 146 & some change record.

The Buell Bro's are getting better speeds everyday now...up to 147 MPH in 1350cc P/PP running toward a 151 record held by Moto Guzzi. Aaron if they get it. I'll be ecstatic...at least Guzzi drops another Production record! Laters,

Dale A.

Scott, yes my X1 runs like crap once the low fuel light comes on. It doesnt act like its low on fuel, just behaves very poorly. Its almost as if the bike is saying "hey, something is wrong with me, look at your gauges dumbass".

Fill it up & all is well again.

Everyone,

Thanks for the kind words. I needed to "vent" a little.

XGecko,

Congrats on beating me to the quarterly report!

I have not been near a computer until today so I missed a bunch of stuff.

The pushrod story is very interesting.

Yes, Jim, the races ROCKED! VIR is a beautiful facility, very spectator friendly, not a "rinky dink" track like Aaron Yates said! But he races it so he's better qualified to rate it than I from that perspective. The one comment I got from a few of the racers that I talked to was that it was narrow, making it a "one line" track.

I got to see a Bennelli Tornado up close, I'll post some pictures of it later.

Truck&bike
I rented a 15' trailer on Monday, the smallest I found available in Danville, Va and drove up the 250 miles and left it at HD/Buell of Ft. Washington, MD, DCBRAG's sponsoring dealer and where I bought the bike.

Still no word on the bike. I was on HDW's schedule to get the 30k service tommorow anyway, so I doubt that they have looked at it.

At this point it could be anything, but probably something simple that I should have caught but didn't.

Will update when developments occur

Aprilia? I was very close to buying a Futura today, but I'm a little short for it and I didn't feel comfortable on it. The Falco and the Mille are the same, just a little too tall for me to feel comfortable on.

My S3 is about as tall a bike as I feel comfortable on.

I think I'm getting a used SV, it will be my commuter/track day bike an backup to the S3 when it breaks down.

If the S3 is not ready by the time we go to Pocono, you will be able to spot Linda and I because we'll be riding his & hers blue SV650's....
