I have been reading up on buells for the last 3-4 months and I am ready to take the plunge and drop the money on a nice pre-owned.

I have found many useful old posts through searches, but cannot seem to find (although I know it had to of been brought up 100 times) a good discussion on the XB vs. the X-1. I really cannot make up my mind on which one I want.

Test rode the XB, loved it. But there were a couple things that kind of irritated me. The frame got pretty hot on the ride side, and that pesky fan that makes quite a bit of noise. I have also heard if you ever have a transmission problem that with the XB you have to split the cases because there is no transmission door?

X-1 looks great, but with the slightly longer wheelbase is handling like night an day difference or is it more minimal? Are there any issues I need to be aware of with either model? Basically consider having the option of two bikes, both nice as can be, same mileage, what do YOU choose?

Please help me out, im anxious to join the buell family, just need a little guidance on what model.

THANKS

The closest current bike to a tuber, as far as handling goes (and this is just my opinion) is the XB12Ss Lightning Long. Not identical, but it'll give you a good idea.

I'm 6'4" and I ride tubers (S1W and S2) and to me the standard XB feels almost "twitchy"; the longer wheelbase bikes (Ss, TT, and Uly) feel more like a tuber, less nervous. Of course, more refined on nearly every level...but very similar as far as turn-in, stability, ergos, etc.

In simplest terms, here's my thoughts.

My S1W: HemiCuda. Loud, rough, not too refined but more fun than I should be allowed to have on public roads. The X1 is more refined than an S1, but has the same basic genes.

The XB line: Corvette. Refined, fast, comfortable, no rough edges, more "sanitary". Still fast and fun...but I like getting beat up a little when I ride, it helps me recognize when I should be saying "whoa...reel it in a bit". : ) "Transparent speed" and I don't get along very well, that's why I sold my old Chrysler 300M right after I got it. "Wha? 110, really? Uh...yes, officer, here's my license and registration..."

I bought a 2006 xb12ss about 3 weeks ago and absolutely love it. I have ridden a my friends 04 xb12s and it does feel a little more "twitchy" as stated already.

The front end seems to stay on the ground more than my friends 04, but I don't have a problem with that.

Go luck and no matter which bike you pick, just keep the shinny side up and the rubber side down.
