hey Court, is there anything of interest (to me) that can be gleamed from the Hieroglyphs on the inside of my from fender on my 99 S3? I came across them while changing the front tire for the 1st time.....

Kinda yes, kinda no . . . the guys used to mark them at various stages in the process when they were making them one by one back in the Southwest corner of the plant.

I'd have to have one of the fellows look to "translate" but . . . twer it me, I'd put the fender on a motorcycle and ride it in this weather!

I'd put the fender on a motorcycle and ride it in this weather!

That would be the 2nd picture (300 miles of secondary road riding in NH yesterday)! new Metzeler M3's have transformed the handling in ways that cannot be put into words : ]
Oh and I didn't take the fender off - I suspended the bike from an engine hoist for the tire swap....
I was mostly curious if one of those was the final production date, but no big deal - thanks for the response......

Actually . . it was the date it was sanded with 180 grit paper.

Go ride it or I'm sending someone after you to reclaim the bike!

But I'm pretty sure I've put more miles on my tuber recently than you have on yours!

If you have ridden over 10 miles the last year you've ridden more than I have. The sum total of my riding the last year is pretty much the TT jaunt at East Troy.

Good on ya I say . . .

You did get your question answered, right?

You did get your question answered, right?

Sort of, but it wasn't really important - when you look at the classic car market, having the right chalk marks on your car is considered important, and they all mean something so I was just curious what I was looking at and what they meant....
You need to get that S2 together and ride my friend - Is NH on the list of the 40 something states you've ridden in?
If not (or even if so) consider this an open invite to show you around sometime....
Sorry to waste your time with the scribblings from East Troy!

Actually the marks you see on the inner fender are not like the bodywork marking under the carpet of a 1963 "split window" or a 1969 "Judge".

Loosely translated the markings on the fender mean

First set: i{"I may forget to tell Tim what paper I used to sand this on the 17th"}

Second set: "{Mr. Remington, I saw you sanded this last week. I'm on vacation for the holidays, please wet sand, pull a build sheet to determine final color, confirm against the jig Brankin build and paint this before I get back after new year"}

Or words to that effect. If you are at Homecoming, remind me and I'll introduce you to the guy who scribbled them and you can hound him while I stuff my face.

New Hampshireville is one of the 4 states in which I have no operated a Buell. Totally fixable deal. My Buell is being built as we speak. . . I'll show it to you next Sunday.

p.s. - if you want to see it, I see the picture of the owners manual is still in plain view as are the "complete engine assembly drawings" : )

I would have loved to come to homecoming this or any year (not looking to hound you or any factory folks though), but....My daughter needed to go to pole vaulting camp (she came in 2nd in her region of Mass., 16th in the entire state as a junior!), and regular summer camp in Maine (her brother too) and had her junior prom (which cost more than marrying her mom, but less than the divorce and child support!).
The Jeep needed tires to pass inspection, the motorcycle needed tires to pass inspection, my 37 year old Glastron's 37 year old Merc 115HP outboard needed a new piston to be usable this year.....sigh.....At least my Jeep, bike and boat are now in a ready to use condition.
Maybe next year?
I've looked high and low for the "complete engine assembly drawings", based on my best guess of what is coming and your hints, I thought I had to be looking in the right area a couple of times but came up empty......I am not done trying (thanks for the new hint - though I did look there already!)!
Oh, and late summer - early fall is a great time to ride in NH......

Scott:

I'll tell ya a secret. . . .Each of the things you mentioned are ALL more important than Homecoming.

The time you invest in making the pole vaulting and prom happen will be paid back a thousand times.

The first time Erik came to my house, 17 years ago, his kids, like mine we itsy-bitsy folks . . . now they are grown up and much more mature than their fathers!

Enjoy and have fun!

Hey . . you could borrow a car from the guy I followed to the office this morning. . . he was going nowhere my banger Ford pickup wasn't . . you could use the speed to be in two places at once!

: )

By the way . . . . keep looking . . it's right there "Complete Engine Assembly Drawings".

Of course you are right Court - my daughter is already more mature than me (taller and better looking too).
I bought a Buell to ride and your tales of midnight travels inspired me to think I could ride to WI....But the fact that I have a beautiful Buell to ride and a Beautiful state to ride in is enough (for now)...

Yeah . . . Erik and I both went through that transition where we discovered our kids were smarter and better looking.

If just bothers me that they'd not yet reached 5 years old when it happened. . .

But, then again, I'm a lot younger than Erik so I suppose I may be a bit more immature.

That reminds me...
While I was bragging about her I forgot to mention that she got accepted into the National Honor Society this year!
Proof positive.....

I don't know why, but that picture of the Lambo didn't come up the 1st time! Sweet ride, but I would get in sooo much trouble with a car like that!
When we meet I might get around to telling you about some hot laps I made around Limerock Park in a Ferrari 308GTB (red of course), but then again I'd rather listen to some of the stories you've been promising to tell.....

Long story . . . but I have a picture of Mrs. Buell and Mrs. Canfield standing in front of two Lamborghini's when they were off doing "girl stuff".

I sent it to Erik with a caption . . .

"No, I think Erik would like the gray, why don't you take the yellow for Court".

To date . . . neither one of us has received our cars. . . . but, hey . . . we're optimists and they're great gals!

There is not enough resolution on the Fuell Mag PDF to read "the picture of the owners manual is still in plain view as are the "complete engine assembly drawings""

It has to be a picture, there is not hits on Google for the www.buell.com site for "engine drawings".

Can you smell the okra?

dbird I agree that it is a picture we seek. Like finding a treasure map - I have thought a few times that it had to be where I was going to look next, all of the clues say so....Only to be denied!
rex, nice vette. I was a corvette specialist when I was selling cars in the mid 90's, still have some of the books!
Court, I would love a mid 80's 911 targa (or a 78 vette, or another mopar muscle car....the list is almost endless)!
My moto lust has turned to bikes as all of the automotive options are very impractical for me right now(and I LOVE to ride). besides my hot Buell, my boat is kinda sexy for what it is too(old and cheap)....

Okay Court, so the "Complete Engine Assembly Drawings" are in the white notebook on Erik's filing cabinet. Where's the owners manual?
